So you believe in your heart of hearts that Obama would have still done this if the mountain were named after a black person, a woman, etc?

Get real.

I've heard of McKinley all my life but I never heard of "denali" before some bleeding heart America-hater tried to change the name.

Just because you aren't educated doesn't mean something is bs.

ETA: Nevermind, just read the rest of the thread. Troll on bro.

I have always been against it being called "McKinley". I lived in Alaska, visited this mountain and have always respected the fact that its true name is Denali.

I fully support it being called Denali and completely doing away with the "McKinley" BS.

Denali has ALWAYS been its true name for centuries and I have never called it anything but that and have educated those who called it McKinley about it's true name.

Denali is an Athabascan word meaning “the high one” or “great one.

I am thrilled to hear that Denali is finally getting it's real name made official again.

The " great one" ?

Seems like Obama is just naming it after himself

Am I am always amazed at how some of you ignore reality.

There is zero chance this mountain would have been renamed by Obama if it were called Mt. Tubman or Mt. Douglas. Zero.

Wouldn't freedom be letting the mountain be called what it has always been called or what the Federal government thousands of miles away mandated it be named?

No...it was the Mount McKinley National Park from when it was crated in 1917 until it was renamed "Denali" in 1980.

WTF?

There is ZERO chance that this mountain would ever have been named after Tubman or Douglass since you're speaking in foolish hypotheticals.

You're inventing foolish nonsense to be outraged about .

Meh, I'm not outraged.

But I'm also not buying that O is doing this just to be nice to the native Alaskans.

There are a lot of mountains name McKinley. I'm sure Obama is just trying to alleviate some of the confusion.

Can you imagine a family with children thinking they're climbing a small McKinley mountain, and accidentally climbing Denali? I mean, what a disaster that would be.
