A better solution would have been to have the girl perform volunteer work in a cancer center.
That's not gonna get many clicks.

At least we know that mother will make her raise it.

all of you are fools if you think this will be a good lesson learned.
Everyday when this child looks in the mirror, she is going to hate her mom, and hate the kid she teased...
she is not going to have some big self reflection. Clearly she is not deep enough for that --- as obviously you don't tease a cancer patient.....
HubbaBubba's suggestion would be far more effective.
How long will it take to grow her hair back? Seems like a long time to destroy someone's self confidence.
The only lesson I see here is that two wrongs make a right?

Exactly. You know how many times my parents video taped and broadcasted their punishments? Zero.

Seems extreme, and the lesson learned is what?
But filming and posting it(assuming the mom did?) is pretty bad parenting IMO. Of course, that's assuming the head shaving was for the reasons in the OP.
quote:Do we know that she didn't do something like this? She could have also donated the hair for all we know.
A better solution would have been to have the girl perform volunteer work in a cancer center. Her appreciation and understanding of what these people go through would go through the roof. Her life would be better for it and she'd feel shame for her previous callousness.

The mother could have just as easily done all the things you think are the right thing to do and still have the child hate her for it.

Why film it? This should be between you and your child.

We need more badass parents like this lady.

Mom of the year in my book.

So she just stays there on her knees while her mom shaves her head? Doubt it.

It's certainly an aggressive strategy to shave her head. ANd again, assuming the OP and link is all true, I'm totally for that type of punishment.
But filming it to post it online is so far over the line and such bad parenting. That's where it just becomes a "look at me" type deal, and now you're broadcasting it for the world to see which only serves to embarrass the kid. You could at least argue that shaving the head is serving a value so the kid can at least take a small step into the cancer patient's world(I said small lol), and walk in their shoes for a bit.

Tough love does work. Kudos to this mother.

That's what I was thinking. And, I think marking the video is good. I'd make my daughter look at the video once a day until her hair grew out.

One of the most shameful things I ever witnessed kids do in elementary school was to make fun of a dying cancer patient who lost her hair.
It remains an early formative memory for me.
ETA: I would have done something similar to what is described in the OP. Maybe not shaved bald, but an Ellen DeGeneres, at the minimum. Certainly a haircut that would get her made fun of.
Let the punishment fit the crime.

Did anyone scan the f'in text? This is a total scam video.

This type of parenting makes bad kids even worse. In fact, the daughter's behavior is most likely a reflection of her mother's parenting. Treat your kids like shite and you will have shitty kids. This girl needs to learn compassion and that is the last thing the mother is teaching here.
Yes, I see this is most likely a bogus video, but the point remains that 'extreme' parenting is counterproductive.
