ETA: All trolling aside, I think that New Orleans is both overrated & underrated at the same time. I really think the French Quarter area is overrated, while I think the Uptown area is gro

Of course the FQ is overrated, but it is still a better asset than most cities can claim. I do everything possible to stay away from the FQ, but I understand why tourists want to visit it.

Baton Rouge is underrated?

ETA: I'm not reading this entire thread, but I gurantee you that New Orleans is the popular vote for most overrated.

Covington has never been better. The downtown area is host to several different choices of restaurants, drinking establishments, galleries, hotel(Southern) and B&B's etc. What is finally starting to happen is it is starting to have a thriving downtown area that will attract and keep more educated, culturally aware people happy. It was always more culturally forward than just about any other small town in La and the mix of small town, artists, and business is only making it better. Traffic does suck however, but traffic always sucks in a great place where people want to be. If you a small quiet farming community-there are still plenty of quiet, rural, non-active places to live in Louisiana...in fact too many. Hell- go to Ponchatoula, Amite, Franklinton, etc.......... if you want quiet.

How is Farmerville overrated? Does the lake make it overrated?

Underrated: Rocky Branch. Where I will retire when my last kid leaves my house.

Underrated...

Houma. My first time there I had 3 hot young ladies approach me and try to get me in bed. Was strange. I grew up in Texas where you had to earn the coorchie! ??

Yes, I know. I'm not a closer. I declined all 3. ??

Overrated: Baton Rouge

Underrated: Shreveport

ETA: I assume everyone just automatically knows Lafayette and New Orleans are the best 2 cities in the state?

City on the rise: Lake Charles with Golden Nugget, it's best casino by far in Louisiana.

Overrated: New Orleans - it is a great city but I do find it gets highly overrated by a lot of people. (I should add that their is a large portion of New Orleans that is underrated as most people stick to the tourist trap areas and don't see some really cool things in the city)

Underrated: Natchitoches - really cool small city with some very good restaurants and night life and in my opinion the most beautiful city in Louisiana.

Haven't seen them mentioned yet, but I did see a Gheens underrated vote. Must be someone who's a fan of party down south.
