Reward for what?? It's not like people are withholding information. Nice gesture though.

For starters, I think it's been well-established the boys were not supposed to go into the Atlantic.
If you are a parent, I feel certain that, at some point, you have let your children engage in an activity that could have ended in a tragedy. Maybe, it's not as obvious as a boating trip; but something could have happened to your children that could very well have resulted in other parents questioning your judgement. Let's put the stones away for a little while and pray for these kids...

If they were as good as their parents think they are when it comes to the sea, they would have been with the capsized boat. It is 1000x easier to spot an overturned hull (as already proven since it was found) than two kids in life jackets with a Yeti cooler.

I tend to agree with this. Most boats tend to be found eventually if they remain floating versus people drifting in the water. They either went in and weren't able to stay with the boat or they were incapacitated and probably had no way of securing themselves to the boat before it was out of their reach in the squall. I would guess the motor cover just came off on it's own when the boat capsized and the life jackets and ice chest were just floating objects that separated from the boat. Whether they made it to the life jackets and ice chest we may never know.

A previous poster (Golfer, I believe) said that the reward money was offered as an inducement to try to get more private pilots involved in the search.

Found it impressive they found a 19 foot boat 100 miles up the coast and 70 miles out at sea when they have spent a year and a half looking for a fricking jumbo jet with location devices.

Highly unlikely for one to come off on it's own. They are kind of designed to stay put for a reason. Mine takes a good bit of force to "unsnap".

Sure, but has your boat ever capsized in the Atlantic in a squall? I would assume that could have some bearing on it being a possibility being the boat was found hull up.

What I think will become an interesting story later on is this. The dad that was on TV with Namath was a stepfather I believe.

If that boat is in his name I would imagine that he may be looking at legal action in the near future. I would be pissed if my wife's husband was giving my son the use of a boat and it cost my son his life.

Just a thought but I bet it happens because the guy has to be wealthy.

In 6-8 ft seas, they only had one shot to stay with the boat once it capsized. They would have had to grab the lower unit at the transom and straddle it. One or both may have had the strength to hold on for awhile, but then there's the prop to deal with too.

Likely never had the chance.

Were these boys old enough to operate a boat with or without an adult?

Have you ever taken the cowling off an outboard engine? I can't imagine that it came off during capsizing.

Yes, there is no age requirement to drive a boat in the state of Florida! I bet that is about to change.

Yes, and I have also seen an ocean storm build to 8-10' seas within an hour before while working offshore years ago so I'd have a hard time ruling anything out here. Maybe they tried to hold on to the boat there and they popped it off while a swell hit them. Hard to say.
