Disagree. Largely because sometimes I'll be behind #2 (and would be passing/going faster), and #1 is tailgating me.

There really is no excuse for being a couple yards behind another car going 70+ MPH.

Yeah, I try and avoid packs in general. Why people think it's a good idea to cluster mere yards from one another while going 70 or 80mph is beyond me.

Used to drive from br to Atlanta a lot. You get bored. You travel in packs to speed. Just find some randos and we just switch off whose leading. It works.

The truck driver is worse, obviously, but the car was a total douche as well.

I agree. Have a hard time feeling sorry for inconsiderate frick heads that clog up the left lane and refuse to move. Ramming them isn't the answer, but in a way, I admire the truck for telling them to frick off with that bull shite.

What's shitty is when some douche feels entitled to ride your bumper because he wants to go 90. I'm not getting over in the slow arse right lane just to let you by if I'm already going 80 mph. You can find a gap and go around me. I belong in the fast lane at 80 mph. ole baw made him a frickin gap now didn't he? Keep being stubborn and you might end up in a guardrail like red car.

Showing out on the interstate and acting like a badass working the counter of your local gun shop (sorry carson) is really the last dominion of the aggrieved and downtrodden southern man, these days.

In truth, they just want to get around me so I can see that sweet arse salt life sticker.

It's not the fast lane, it's the passing lane. You find a gap and move your arse over to let the faster car pass. When not passing you belong in the right lane no matter what speed you are going.

Agreed. The only time I don't get right, is if I'm passing a long line of cars in the right lane, going 80+. I'm not getting over the first gap I see so the person wanting to run 90+ can pass me, then get myself stuck in the long line of cars in the right lane. Long stretches of interstate with much traffic and you're just going to have to accept that some people drive in the left lane. I try not to for more than a mile or so, but sometimes in heavy traffic it happens. There may be 3 semis lined up, holding up traffic, in the right lane. I'm not ducking in between them so one or two cars can get ahead of me.

it's not different than what I said. If you're passing people in the right lane, then you are entitled to stay in the passing lane. Just because someone wants to pass at a faster, unsafe speed, doesn't make you king of the highway. I'm only going to get over in the right lane when there is a large enough gap that I don't have to slow back down. I'm not going to get over and go from 80-85 mph to 65-70 mph when I'm passing people, just because some douche has to go 100 mph to make it anywhere on time. I'll get over eventually when there is a gap, but not to hit my brakes and slow down by 15 mph.

Both drivers need to reevaluate their lives.

until there is a gap in the right lane that doesn't require me to slow down. If I'm still passing people consistently, you can wait a second.

Some states. Not all. But how you describe is how I drive. Anyway, someone who is going 90 in a 70 and is tailgating a dude going 80 in the left lane is far more a part of the problem than the dude not getting over in a timely enough fashion.

It's ridiculous when people talk about rules of the road, but then advocate going 20 over and recklessly endangering other people by tailgating.

I agree with you here.

If you want to stick strictly to the laws, I've never driven anywhere that says exceeding the speed limit makes you belong in any lane. If you'd rather go with common courtesy, you need to move over.

this

if I have my cruise set on 80, I'm not getting over till there is a large enough gap in which I do not have to hit the brakes

people that ride my arse as I'm passing cars can get fricked

hell, the passing lane usually has a flow to it that can be hard to get back into if you have to get over in the right lane and slow way down. At least in Nashville it does. 100 mph driver can kiss my arse for a couple miles. I'll get over when it makes sense.

common courtesy would be to realize the guy you are tailgating is still passing people, and get off his arse.

Wait, let me get this straight.

It's okay for you to speed, and people should recognize the passing lane for your purposes.

But those who want to speed a little more than you, no sir. Over 80mph is maniacal, bc I say so.

Do this every time I get into a situation like this. Dude in the left lane is using me to block traffic and aggravate the tailgater. Not happening. Let those two morons sort out their issues with each other

This happens to me when I get in the right lane. Some air head gets along side of me then matched my speed to piss off whoever is behind them, completely unconcerned about the accumulating traffic behind them.

They already screwed up by camping out in the left lane....naturally they'd be stupid enough to aggravate the tailgating driver behind them in a crowded freeway.

Slower traffic keep right. Violating they rule causes these situations. Tailgating and left lane camping should be punishable by death.

I lost count of how many times I'll be in the right lane with the cruise control on and a black female will pass me, then slow down, then pass me, then slow down, etc as she takes phone calls or texts in the car.

Exactly this.

The video obviously seems to show red car being either an a-hole or oblivious idiot. Truck guy should be in jail though.

Sure he is. The left lane is the passing lane. That means pass, then get back over into the right lane. Many highways have signs stating "Left lane for passing only".

As others said...varies by state

Looks like only a very small handful of states actually say the left lane is for passing only
quote:

States which only allow passing in the left lane:
•Arkansas
•Illinois
•Kentucky
•Louisiana
•Maine
•Massachusetts
•New Jersey
