We currently have a Honda Pilot (2013) and it's time to start looking. It's just my husband and myself at this point ... adult kids may be with us from time to time but not even close to a regular basis.

We test drove a Hyundai Santa Fe today .. was impressed with the roomy feel, features and price.

First, yes it's a Hyundai and I know about poor resale but we keep cars forever so that makes me more concerned about reliability.

Don't need more than 5 passenger seating BUT don't want smaller feeling interior like the Toyota Rav.

Don't want to pay $43k for a Highlander when I don't really need the space. Looked at Palisade but again, don't want to pay for what I don't need; same with Tellurides.

The thing that's drawing me to the Hyundai is the warranty.

Anyone bought a Santa Fe recently and have opinions to share?

We bought a 2019 Santa Fe Sport. It has the 2.4L 4cyl. No complaints what so ever. Got it brand new for $21K which made it easy to pay off in 36mos.

We currently have 40K miles on it. We will probably hold onto it for 3 additional years. Not planning on owning it beyond 100k miles.

If I'm ever allowed back into the facility where I work I'll be doing a ton of driving. Also 2 of my 3 grown children are in Texas and Mississippi now so there'll be trips to visit them.

My current vehicle has 170K miles .. do Hyundais make it that far??

I'm SUV shopping as well. Currently looking at an Acura RDX.

My daughter bought one because the price was appealing. She brings the big dog everywhere and travels regionally a lot. She is super happy with it. Several young people I know also have purchased Hyundai for price/reliability I am told.

Mazdas are a little more expensive to fix. I agree with the Acura RDX, which is basically a Honda that you can take to any shop and has a 6-cylinder engine. I traded in a 2014 RDX this summer that was at 180k miles and had no issues at all.

I'm happy to look into those ... the other issue is that the Hyundai dealership has TONS on the lot whereas Honda, Toyota and Kia have little to nothing in the way of new. I'm not paying more for USED than new especially when my car really is good to keep going. My husband just said "it's time".

Thanks again.

SIL has a 2016 with 50k on it. All the indicator lights started coming on around July 4th and the car will shutoff sometimes. The NO Hyundai dealer still can't figure out what's wrong with it. Buy a Highlander or Rav4...

I watch too many KIA/Hyundai engine replacements on youtube to give you an unbiased opinion. I do not want the vehicle after its warranty expires. Oh yeah, read the warranty carefully, there are a lot of OUT clauses.

It would seem to me that their vehicles are not designed for longevity.

I wouldn't be concerned with resale value at all now. All cars hold their value better than they did a few years ago.

Hyundai is okay. The people I know with higher end models like the Genesis or the larger SUV have had some issues. But the people I know with their smaller cars were very happy with them.

The dealers are very hit or miss. Mostly miss. That's a big problem with Hyundai.

You may be on to something with the Santa Fe. Just curious, did you try a Chevy Equinox? I just rented one and it is much roomier than my company provided Escape from which I’d like to escape.

I've owned a Toyota Highlander (2015) and a Ford Edge (2018). Both are great. My wife likes the Edge.

The Santa Fe is a practical choice and a good value if you avoid the higher end models. Your overall costs of ownership is probably going to be pretty low overall even if you have the occasional issue with the vehicle.

It's not a Toyota or Honda. But from a durability perspective I think they are on par with Chevrolet, Nissan, Mazda, or the better VW products.....so more likely to last without major issues than the average Fiat, Chrysler, or Ford. The costs of repairs and maintenance is likely lower than most, if not all mainstream brands.

Friend bought a new CX9 in 2020. Engine replaced in early 2021 with about 15K miles. Doesn't mean that they are all lemons, but hers certainly was.

I'm currently in the market myself for a midsized suv. But I need one that can be towed 4 down behind my motorhome and that rules out a lot of them.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AVOID THE GM 2.4L MIDSIZE SUV'S AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!

We had a Terrain. It was by far the worst vehicle I have ever owned. $23K sales price (used) and nearly $11K in repairs over 4 years.

Cracked Exhaust manifold
Multiple sensors
Transmission
Blown Engine
