I did so poorly on the MPRE I didn't even consider that. Time to delete all those endorsements I've gotten for legal research.

I've never once used LinkedIn after making my profile/account. I can't stand the e-mails I get from them saying that, "Joe Schmo wants to connect with you." I have 0 connections...that should say something.
But, I do hope the creators of LinkedIn put $26.2b bumper stickers on their vehicles.

This. The exaggerated valuations of these companies are going to result in a big crash.

I've gotten decent value out of LinkedIn. I've networked well there and managed to hire a few employees when needed by referencing my connections.
Never paid for the premium although I am curious for searching salary range by position information.
I get a good laugh out of how people describe themselves. You usually meet people and get the total opposite.
That and all the dipshits that endorse me for fricking Sharepoint which I know very little about.

LinkedIn is out of ideas. Their problem was is and will always be monetization. Their stock crashed in Feb and it's astounding how quickly their board recognized the bleak future and cashed in.
MSFT will try to use LI to expand their enterprise collaboration presence. Expect skype, office 365 etc to get integrated soon. Getting people to pay for it will be another thing altogether.

I got my current job through Linkedin.

It's a decent recruiting tool but it's taken a turn towards a Facebook type experience. Dumb motivational quotes, people agreeing with said quotes and then war breaking out.

Linkedin is a valuable hiring tool. With it, I can easily identify the douches and eliminate them from further consideration.

Linkedin is an excellent site for keeping up with former collegues and being able to see filtered lists of job postings in your area. No reason to bitch about it if you ignore the facebook type news feed and just use the site for what it was made for.
Amen.
The feed is utter crap.
The recruiting is top notch.

LinkedIn can be pretty useful for finding job candidates and business contacts - depending on the industry.
Of course it can also be a distraction like anything else... competing with Facebook and everything else for the "share of distraction."

I read about this deal on Myspace.

When I saw this story earlier I was surprised how much Microsoft paid for Linkedln. Comparing it to FB, twitter, etc I was thinking since it has a specific purpose my users do not use it on a regular basis, etc, but I guess between the data and making some type of change, it will be profitable.
