I think she is in charge of Security, as in walking around with a flashlight and making sure the doors are locked at night.

The Chief Security Officer of the company I work for is in charge of physical security. Cyber Security falls under IT.

There is nothing remotlely attractive about her. No DSLs, so I'm lost as to how she managed to obtain that position with Equifax.

She wrote the boss a song.

Perhaps, but I'd think this falls on either the CIO, the head of network ops, or the lead of the red team, if Equifax has one.

I don't see what the big whoop is. Most of the OT are working jobs that have nothing to do with the degree they hold. i.e. OP works at McDonald but has $50k in loans for a women's study degree.

That is typical. The Chief Information Officer, Chief Technology Officer, or similar title is typically in charge of cyber security efforts.

ETA: Whoops. I see that she is also head of cyber security. Well, then.

Right, but how many CISO's get down in the weeds day to day and worry about server patch management? Yes, eventually it falls on her, but I don't doubt there's going to be bodies strewn all along the way.

so you gonna blame the lowly IT workers who follow orders or the leadership?

our CIO at my company drops by my office once a week and asks me if i know of any security-related issues for any of our servers (we have over 1,000 pieces of production hardware).

he does the same for most of our other IT staff as well. dude is smart enough to know he doesn't know everything so likes to hear thoughts from those of us closest to potential issues.

I would like to think the breach will end Equifax. But, the credit check companies are some of the most powerful just by virtue of everything they know.

They know more about most people than their employers, their doctors and their children - spouse-level detail about financial stuff. Heck, probably more than Google on finances. And there is literally nothing you can do about it if you want to use money in the modern economy.
