Exactly, they are all over Paris too.
Still several employees behind the register taking orders, making sure you ordered correctly on the computer, etc

You can rent ATM's for less than $200 a month. Maintenance is no more than $500 per month. I don't see how these are any more sophisticated than an ATM. Seems pretty cost effective to me. McD's isn't doing this to make their product more expensive but more convenient. They plan on saving money.

and how much do you pay your carriage driver? How much money do you spend a year on feeding your horses and keeping them healthy? How much does your local switch board operator make?
My dad used to dig swimming pools with a shovel during the summer while he was in high school and college and told me when I was in high school i should get a job doing the same thing. Good work out while getting paid and all. I went to apply and they looked at me like I was crazy. Of course they use track hoes now.
ETA: my local Chase bank only has 1 teller now for the business line. They replaced every other line with ATMs, inside and out.

i mean they might be able to lose 2-3 regular cashiers per shift with these things?
so, id assume one "technician" (or engineers) maintenance salary would be roughly the same as the income of the 2-3 human cashiers

I use the app for Taco Bell and Subway now. It's essentially the same thing. I LOVE not having to deal with a cashier.

I go to Papa John's to pick up my own pizza so I don't have to tip the delivery drivers.

Not nearly. You have a contract with the vendor of the machines, remote access for your software/firmware support.
Combined with smartphone app orders, this will be vastly more cost-effective than having 2-3 front counter employees per shift.

indeed, if the chains can get the software from their ordering apps integrated effectively, that will be the game changer.

You won't see a consolidated app unless you pay for it and the chains are on board(less likely) . Think about TV streaming now and how some big shows are still only on network site even if you pay for Hulu.
But anyhoots, what's wrong with a folder and 3 or 4 chains' apps in there. I have 3 already(domino's subway and taco bell). Don't need every single one available.

The 90s had a service in br like this via phone. Is Waitr going to go pick up food from Flemings and deliver it to you? Cool service if so.

Take Out Express is still around but with a very limited restaurant list
Waitr will pick up from pretty much everywhere
