I think the DUI laws are too strict and harass the innocent with checkpoints, but when you are on your 6th DUI (especially if you kill a kid) they should chain your arse up in the shower at angola and let the inmates have some fun.

What's the difference between doing this your for your first or sixth DUI? Do you need law enforcement to tell you how irresponsible it is?

If that was my child, I would plead with the court to release him. Then, I would make sure he was never heard from again.

I have no idea why, as a society, drunk driving is not more frowned upon. It's pretty freaking sad.

Probably because most people that drink will drink and drive at some point. Unless you don't drink, I'd imagine you've had a few beers before getting behind the wheel at some point. Unfortunately, there's a lot of people that will get behind the wheel after one beer or 10.

Maybe so. But, if the penalties were harsher, wouldn't people think a little harder about it? Certainly, if you had a conviction under your belt and knew another could be really bad for you...I would hope that would change your actions.

The penalties for multiple DUI's are pretty harsh now, when they're enforced to the letter. Unfortunately, there are a lot of loopholes that a good lawyer or someone with connections can exploit. And a hardcore alcoholic will drink and drive regardless of the consequences, if he has access to a vehicle.

I'd imagine that the majority of folks with multiple DUI offenses are probably just screw ups and will always be screw ups. A DUI charge is pretty costly and embarrassing as is, so I'm not sure harsher penalties will cut down on the multi-offenders. I'm not saying I disagree with harsher penalties at all, but often idiots will be idiots regardless of the consequences. People commit idiotic crimes every day knowing that there's an inherent possibility of jail time.

Hell, if this guy was a local, there'd be posters on here knighting for him. Or at least saying "it's bad, but..." and trying to explain why he shouldn't get thrown under the jail. A lot of people just don't think drunk driving is a big deal, or they see themselves in the perp's shoes.

sad but true.

For some reason, people view DUI laws as restrictive and only see how they could damage them. Not how they protect them and their family.

Yeah, I don't think stricter penalties are going to change people like this perp.

There is a HUGE difference between 1 beer and 10 beers. 1 beer is most likely not near the legal limit where 10 beers could be extremely intoxicated.

The penalties for #2 and forward should be alot harsher. People make mistakes when they are young and drive after 3 beers and blow a .09, but continuing to do so shows a pattern of terrible decision making and you should not be allowed to keep your license.

This guy that killed a kid with his #6 should never have been out of jail.
