The only thing similar I've done is show up to the Marriott in Austin during a conference only to find out I was a week early.

The only thing he may have a leg on is if he called in to book his flight and the phone agent screwed up.

I set my alarm to the wrong time for a flight and had to get in later in the day. Other than that, I've never screwed up my travel. Oh I booked the wrong date accidentally and then got it fixed 10 minutes later. 5 dollar fee. Oh well. I'm always quintuple checking my travel because I'm extremely afraid I'm going to book the wrong dates like that. I literally sit there for 15 minutes and go back and forth from my work dates and my travel agency website to make sure I'm not missing anything

Wouldn't the agent repeat his destination and flights to him? Usually they tell you airport codes as well. I just can't think they left out the entire destination and only said Grenada/Granada.

While he should have picked up on it at some point, if the agent didn't clarify the location he should get his money back.

I went to the wrong Wyndahm in New Orleans once, I didn't know there were three in a one mile radius.

I know when I call Delta, they usually don't say the state when repeating back to me. I'm sure they do when I want to fly to Columbus. But since there's a difference in spelling, the agent probably doesn't have a prompt to clarify and didn't confirm the country.

His first clues should have been price and arrival time. I'm sure they probably went over it on the phone and he didn't pay attention. He's trying whatever it takes to get his $$$ back.

Dentists are used to everything being done for them so they only have to show up and do little work

This could not be further from the truth. So many anti-dentites out there........

ETA: I'm not defending this guy, there are plenty of dentists who are idiots, but successful dentists work their asses off.

This guy forked over $5000 for what he thought was a 2 hour flight? He deserves this for having more money than sense. Seriously, how can someone be THIS dumb?

First class tix are expensive for any flight. Flying to Singapore just business class is regularly 8k+.

There was an Oakland-Auckland mix-up out of LA years ago. Carrier played it up for publicity, threw money and trips at the guy and he even went on Letterman.

Lemons to lemonade.
