This story reminds me of the scene in Top Gun where Kelly McGillis says: "While this engagement may have resulted in a victory, I think we have shown it as what NOT TO DO." Just days after the shooting of two officers, these guys talk a guy into putting a rifle down AFTER he points it at them. I wasn't there and am not second-guessing but when someone points a rifle at the police, the response should be pew-pew-pew and not harsh words.

quote:

Baton Rouge Police officers convinced a man to peacefully surrender an assault weapon on Monday moments after he pointed the firearm at authorities.

The 9 a.m. incident in the 4200 block of Prescott Road started after an officer noticed Joshua Parker, 28, recklessly driving a Chrysler 300 sedan over a curb and into a fence, according to a Baton Rouge Police report. Parker got out of the vehicle with his chest puffed and one of his fists clenched before pulling out a black assault weapon and walking toward a residence, the document says.

Three officers approached Parker and ordered him to put the weapon on the ground, said Baton Rouge Police Sgt. Don Coppola. Parker approached the lawmen “in an aggressive manner,” Coppola said, and pointed the firearm at them, saying, “Y’all are going to have to shoot me.”

Using verbal commands, the officers persuaded Parker to set down the weapon, Coppola said.

“Based on the outstanding training that is received not only in the training academy but through annual in-service training, the officers were able to defuse the situation and get the suspect to comply,” Coppola.

So I guess this is the expected response from Police now? "I would appreciate it if you wouldn't shoot me and please drop the gun..."

Man should be dead. He should buy a lottery ticket as soon as he gets out of jail.

Ummmm the police actually handled a situation right for once. Let's give credit where credit is due - I applaud their restraint.

He will get a slap on the wrist, be back out on the streets, and might possibly take someone's life next time. He should have been shot or should be put under the jail. He's a threat to the public.

So the cops defuse a standoff with no casualties and you're pissed that they didn't go full John Wayne? OP is a full blown fricking retard.
