“I kept telling them, ‘That’s glaze from a doughnut,’” Rushing told the Orlando Sentinel. “They tried to say it was crack cocaine at first, then they said, ‘No, it’s meth, crystal meth.’”

Cpl. Shelby Riggs-Hopkins reportedly administered a series of roadside drug tests, which the officers had not been trained properly to use. Two of them turned up positive for cocaine.

Rushing was strip-searched and spent hours in jail before being released on $2,500 bond, NY Daily News Reported.

When lab tests came back, however, it turned out that Rushing was telling the truth. The crumbs had been glaze from a doughnut. Riggs-Hopkins resigned a week later after being reprimanded.

Rushing sued the city over the incident and after a settlement, the City of Orlando agreed to pay him $37,500 for the wrongful arrest, reports said.

You think of all professions, cops should know what fricking donut glaze looks like. The guy hasn't been able to get a job since then, but I say embrace it and make sky blue donuts.

The fact that he's 65 years old probably doesn't help.

Still, $37k will buy lots of meth to keep him happy.

Hopefully, our LA cops know the difference between powder sugar and drugs. I would hate for this to happen to someone who stopped at Cafe du Monde and have some powdery leftovers in a white paper bag.

Since when can you sue for spending a few hours in the slammer?

A meth arrest has a slightly bigger impact on your employability and local reputation than doing "a couple hours" for an unpaid traffic ticket. Assuming he had legal and court costs too. Should have gotten more than 37k.

I think everyone arrested due to negligence or lazy policing should get paid

If local municipalities would like to stop these settlements, then they need to get rid of the IQ restriction for cops and end qualified immunity for cops.

I don't leave leftovers when I go to CDM.
