if I was taught that santa was a black dude instead of white, I would have had no problem sitting on his lap knowing that he'd be bringing me gifts every year.

Not even close to true, since black kids have grown up only knowing a white santa. If anything this is going to have a negative affect since the black santa they're giving their list to at the mall doesn't look like every other picture of Santa they've seen in their lives.
