The only thing that stands a chance is another chain counter service place that students will patronize, as much as it sucks. Five Guys and Chipotle do fine. A Zoe's or Panera Bread type of place would kill where Mahoney's is.

They need to just hang up trying to get a local bar or restaurant into that area. College students don't give a shite about eating local. On the rare occasion they can pay for a sit down dinner and tip, they're more interested in PF Changs or Carrabas.

I wanted to like it and make it a regular place, but the cigarette stench and bitchiness of the staff was a big turn off. If the bartenders didn't already know you, it was pretty clear they wanted nothing to do with you. Also a frick ton of wasted space. Sad that Reginelli's died for this.

The cigarette smoke smell there was the worst.

What will Dan Day do now with his "clanking glasses" and "bar sounds" sound effects?

Also, I'm shocked they are closing. The 104.5 ad always promoted their A/C. I thought that would've kept them open forever.

Agreed. It always felt like it had a ton of empty space. It was too smokey with too poor of service to be a restaurant. The layout was too spacious for a cozy pub. It didn't work as a club atmosphere.

They should have banned smoking inside, and added tables and servers to make it a full restaurant during the day. Then, used that wasted space in the back to make a bandstand. They would they would have been able to be a bar at night with live music like Northgate Tavern was, but a quick casual bar and grill during the day. Their food quality and beer selection was always solid. A little tweaking of their setup could have made something special.

Does it seem like the Baton Rouge market is more sensitive to bad management than some other places?

I remember when Fox and Hound's management went to shite it's patronage dropped to nothing pretty quick (with Bulldog providing the death blow).

Meanwhile, in my hometown outside of Chicago - some crappy places have limped along with no variance in the crowd for decades despite bad service.

Hard to say. Bear in mind Fox and Hound opened in late 90's. It had a great run, but I definitely miss it.
