$12,000 per year is cheap as frick. Mizzou was $12,000 in state in 2004.

Good Lord, I'm old.

Damn, my tuition was $3k just a few years ago. I don’t see how they can justify doubling tuition within the span of a few years.

Tuition is still pretty low.

For all those complaining about how much tuition has gone up, etc. What you really need to know is: has the per student budget increased over that same time period?

I don’t feel like looking it up but my guess is it hasn’t increased at the same rate as total tuition. What has changed is the direct state funding to LSU (not TOPS). To make up for those decreases in funding, fees have gone up because like others have said, it’s very difficult to raise tuition since the legislators control it.

that a lot of debt for someone with a bullshite degree!

College is a scam for most people because their degrees are not specialized. You could do much better training and learning a trade for the 5 years and accruing way less debt.

LSU is still considerably cheaper than colleges in other states. Louisiana needs to get rid of the TOPS program in order to compete with other institutions. It's ridiculous that a kid with a 3.0 high school GPA can get the majority of their school paid for by the state. There's a reason that we can't afford the facilities and faculty of other state schools..

Don't remember what tuition itself was in the fall of 1987

1986 Fall tuition was $675 , I remember standing in line for classes and paying fees inside the Field House. Pretty sure LSU went to phone registration for classes in 1987 ... I’m getting old

TOPs will be cut within the next 5-10 years. The Baton Rouge apartment market is going to go straight into the shitter when this happens. Lots of parents can afford expensive rent when they're only paying $800 a semester in tuition. Put that figure at $6000 a semester and El Cid will be a happening spot.

My kid can live at home assuming we are still in BR. I'm not paying rent when our is house is 10 miles from campus.

for reference, Georgia Tech (a public school) has the following in-state costs:

$5,000 tuition per semester
$1,200 fees per semester

That's $6,200 per semester. There are no BA degrees that are offered, so at least most students who graduate will go into careers that are profitable.
