Don't forget the railroad tracks running through a couple of the front nine holes.
On the 4th hole, the old track was probably about 50 yards in front of the tee box. My friend hit an absolute bullet off the tee....but it went only about 6 inches off the ground. The ball hit the track, launched itself high in the air, and we both watched the ball go back over our heads and land a good 40-50 yards behind the tee box. He was pissed. I laughed til it hurt. I had never seen a negative yards drive before...

Paid football parking along with some sort of restaurant / shopping complex is best guess as to what will happen to this 127 acres. Whatever it is LSU will squeeze every dollar they can out of it.

So it makes $$ (barely) and they want to close it?

I am in favor of getting rid of hole #17 though
Many a round went to die on that GD hole and the plateau green for me
I'd hate to see it go, but don't play it at much as when I would stop in BR for a couple days and play it as a "student"

is the golf course still busy?
you used to barely be able to play there because it was always so busy
if thats still the case, they should raise prices a bit instead of saying they don't profit enough
I wouldn't mind them going up a bit on prices but closing golf courses seems to be a trend around BR now.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays LSU has a Seniors tournament for the general public and Mike has to turn away players many times when his quota of 120 players is reached.

Teed off and smoked a horse right on the arse, forgot what hole it was but was around 2001 or so. Horse took off like it was at the Kentucky Derby.

I heard Friday they were definitely going to close it some time next summer/fall. Mike Johnson is retiring I think in April.

Post your greatest LSU moment,
We had a fraternity tourney on the old LSU Course that was two man teams. They gave each two man team a fifth of Taaka on hole 1 and you had to finish it by hole 9. Twelve pack of beer per team for the back. You were paired with another team so you couldn't pour it out. The scores were atrocious but it was a hell of a time. LSU would NEVER allow something like that now.

Rumor is Jack Nicklaus is going to redesign the course into a respectable venue for the golf team.

I worked with the golf course my senior year for a final project. We got a look into what the costs associated with keeping the place irrigated, fertilized, etc. If I remember correctly, they were $400k in the red for the first quarter alone that year. Takes a lot of cash to keep a course in good shape. When you are selling green fees at a discount, a drought or extensive freeze can break you. If they charged what it took to break even or make it worth not using that property for something else, then students wouldnt be able to play there.

That moment of elation when after months to almost years of trying, I finally cleared the lake and landed on the green on that par 4 6th hole

I worked there for a few years so I have a few if these, but the one that made me laugh the most...
Sun was going down, get a phone call into the pro shop from a guy on the course and he's hootin and hollerin about some slow Asians on 16. I told him we will tell them to hurry up (I lied).
30mins later I have the Asians in the pro shop screaming about some maniac who rammed there car in the parking lot with his golf cart.
I chase the guy down on the course, he's wasted, hops the fence at Freds and start running from the police with his golf bag over his shoulder.
I learned how to play golf there, hopefully they keep it open.

The old golf course was where I forged my game into the shapeless lump it is today. I remember the old front nine going away to become new front 9 + old back 9. Did they rebuild the old back 9? Its been at least 10 yrs since I played there...
Is the old back nine now the New Alex Box? wow its been a long time
