LSU Honors College

I am considering the LSU Honors College and want to know if it is worth it?
Also, if I get in to the Honors College, should I live in the "Honors House" dorms?
I'm not a "weirdo" nor a gamer, just looking at a perspective for a typical college kid.

When I was there, you needed 6 hours/academic year of honors courses to remain in the HC, and it earned you priority scheduling. I think it was totally worth it for priority scheduling. The HNRS classes were pretty interesting in terms of humanities courses, and they bridged a lot of subjects together in them (For instance: HNRS 3035 was, at one point, HIV/AIDS, which was classified at 65% biochem, 35% humanities).

They're very new. Live in the newest ones you get accepted to. There were some weirdos there, but there were some good people in there, too. When I was going through, they were the biggest rooms. I moved off campus after one year there. My roommate was a weird guy. His girlfriend got cold easily, and his side of the room was next to the window unit, so he'd often turn it off. And his girlfriend would stay around until 3-4am playing World of Warcraft or something like that. It was weird, but everyone has weird roommate stories. My sister lived in one of the all-girls dorms during her 3rd semester. Her two roommates would sit naked on one of their beds, indian-style, and eat saltines. While it sounds probably not unlike a dream you've had before, for someone who's not quite as into the letting other people see them naked, it's weird. I'd rather a weird dude and his girlfriend playing video games to that (if I were her). But that's just me.

Honors College was great while I was there and I think it's even better now. The dorms are located in the perfect spot between the rec and the union.
There are plenty of normal people in the Honors College man.....
ETA: Went pot luck on my roommate....we got an apartment the next year with a couple other guys. Lucked out and get a pretty cool roommate. I lived on the third floor....somehow all the strange guys got assigned to the basement

I didn't do it for the reasons you mentioned, although I didn't know about the priority scheduling at the time. I was also told that it was extra work for no reward. I'm not sure how much distinction graduating honors college gives you in the job market or grad school.

Lived in Honors dorms freshman year, nicest dorms on campus. People are frikin weird though, stay away from them

I was lucky enough to do the honors program at another university. It is very much worth it. The perks you get far outweigh the negatives.
The biggest negative...there are some weird MFers there. LSU has really stepped up their honor's program. I have researched it for my kids...again, go for it if you get the chance.
Also, my first job was landed because of my honors English courses...and that was not even my damn major.
If you are aiming for a competitive post grad degree...having those little H's on your transcript help....they really help.
Perks when I was in the program:
Much smaller class size
Much more stimulating assignments
An "H" next to each honor's class on your transcript
Get to register for classes first
Get first priority for on campus student jobs - the good ones...not work in a coffee shop...
Best on campus student housing
Advisors that actually give a frick
Real study areas with all the amenities from computers to printers...all state of the art...any research material you may need
Direct access to counslers (life, study, etc.)
Direct access to tutors or GAs that will help if needed

And the test are easier - yes, they are not multiple choice or TF bullshite....they are sure enough, know your crap essay type exams....but the material was taught in a way that engaged you...and the group discussions really motivates you.

The dorms were an issue - because I wanted to go out and drink and find vagina. Sex and drinking are way down the list of most in the dorm.
I was still able to have a nice social life while living in the honor dorm. I did move out after year 1....caught some hell for moving off campus.

I highly recommend living in dorms your freshman year. So much easier to meet people, do stuff on campus, and get to class.
I'm biased though because i had a hell of a time in my dorm.

This is a very shortsighted criticism that isn't even accurate.
What others are saying is right. You're gonna want to do Honors if you get the chance. Also, 12 million dollars from Roger Ogden mean a lot of good things are happening/will happen to the Honors College.

Definitely do the dorm. They're nice and pretty big and pretty new. I didn't live their but know people who did. Way better than the crap I lived in

Priority scheduling was dope and much better than calling Reggie 100 times and getting a busy signal.
We lived in Laville and had no problem partying, drinking, etc. There were some weirdos no doubt, but there was some regular people too.
I thought it was totally worth it. Plus, you can do honors college for the first 2 years, and then get out if it isn't worth it. By then priority scheduling is less important.

The "weirdos" are going to be the best students, and wind up being doctors, engineers and other professionals. Doesn't hurt knowing them later in life, plus they can help you study.
