when i played, the only important games was the fraternity league. Once you got out of that, LSU athlete teams usualy beat everyone.

That was until a huge shift in the way they ran things. Greeks used to be in their own league and playoffs, until the campus championship.

Now they are mixed in and struggle to stay competitive.

Why are there so many people still upset they didn't get a bid?

Buying friends implies that I gave these guys money to be my friends. I never once paid a single person to befriend me. I paid to have huge parties and a packed social calendar that someone not in a fraternity has absolutely no chance at experiencing. When your social budget exceeds 150k a year, you can do a lot more than a bunch of unaffiliated people in dorms. If you pick the right house you'll naturally become close anyway. And hazing isn't bad if you're not mentally weak and know that you control so much of the process.

They still have the Greek leagues. I'm currently in two of them.

I'm pretty certain they didn't try to get a bid.

i also love how people think they got a bid from a fraternity.

Unless things have changed during rush you put down your top 3 bids. On bid day you received an envelope with a bid from the fraternity that gave you a bid in your top 3. If #1 game you a bid thats what you got in the envelope. If #1 didnt give you a bid and #2 did, you got the #2 in your envelope.

They were my first house during rush a few years ago and they had a bottle of whiskey on the table in their dining room. That was a huge violation but they didn't give a frick and were offering all of us drinks.

I would guess because no one cares to play Team No name. The rec teams in the playoffs were never any good. it always came down to the Athletes team and a fraternity team. This was around the 02-07 era

Leagues yes. But not strictly greek playoffs.

Back before 07, the greeks and non greeks would never play each other at all. Only two teams would, winner of the greek playoffs and winner of the Open playoffs competed for the campus championship. Not anymore.

Now you get your 4-5 greek league games and then are inserted into the playoffs with Open teams.

I'm perfectly fine with where I am in life. I enjoyed my greek time. I also enjoy hanging out with people I do now (which are basically all non-Greek). I couldn't care less one way or the other. It just irks me that there's an argument about this, and a greek person is going to get pointed out as the douche every time. In my experience, it's always been the pointed at from the other side. I'm sure they had their run ins with it from the opposite side of the situation, but it's just such a played out argument.

Like I said, it changed around that 07-08 time.

No you have "team no name" as you put it, dominating certain sports for years in a row.

I get light hazing as a bonding experience, but this is well across the line in my opinion.

There is plenty of shitty hazing you can do that is productive for the fraternity, difficult and unenjoyable for pledges and that promotes bonding. All without being unnecessarily demeaning.

When I was managing our pledges we made them do tons of shitty tasks, but as I'd learned from being a pledge under a shitty pledge trainer, when they're all in the fraternity I don't want some big rift because we were assholes without purpose. Learning to fricking with their psychological desire to get in and not let their pledge brothers down was way more effective at scaring the shite out of them and stressing them out than the dumb "eat dogfood" stuff you see in movies about awful northern fraternities.
