Article is old so I don't know if its germans but this is the first I'm hearing or seeing of this.

quote:

BATON ROUGE – LSU will require most freshmen to live on campus next year. A new housing requirement was revealed Friday. LSU said the decision aligns with other universities in the SEC and was “long overdue.” LSU said it has spent years readying for this new rule, building-out a huge number of new housing options for students. LSU hopes to have 80% of freshman living on campus. Right now, about 65% of freshman live on campus. “The institution spent the better part of the last two years in deep thought and reflection” about the plan for a residency requirement, Joe Aviles, the associate vice president of enrollment management at LSU, said in an interview with the Business Report about the new policy. Students who live within 50-miles of LSU, military veterans, students with children or spouses, living with parents or those over 21 will be exempt from the new residency rule.

I feel like it was this way in '03 as well. But I knew a few people in rent houses/apartments, so maybe not.

So, they built all those new dorms and now need to fill em?

Lived in the ERC when I was a freshman, if all the dorms are like that then that's not bad.

I started in 2004 and it was not in place, but I know it was in place before that. It was changed due to the huge influx of freshman around then.

I never lived on campus.

Was not required in '04. But there were always rumors it would be implemented. I think it's BS to an extent. I lived in Kirby in terrible conditions and paid more than what I would for my share of a two bedroom apartment. In fact, I paid a penalty, moved out a semester early, paid rent at an apartment on E. Boyd and still saved money compared to paying the dorm fee and required meal plan.

I'm not against dorms. I'd suggest my kid to get the experience. But not a fan of the prices and conditions of certain dorms (although I've heard Kirby is much better now)

ie we need people to pay us more $$$$$$

How would it work if a child's grandparent owned a condo right by campus? Just for future reference for my kid.

Even higher number IMO, they are saying this is only 20% of freshmen? Heh.

I first read this as Joe Alleva....

Imagine what a cluster that would be.

Most of my best friends from college were from the dorms. Far easier to make friends that way than in class.

My freshman year started in '03 and I did not live on campus. Maybe the rule was in place, but not enforced??

Pretty dumb rule. Not every freshman can afford to live on campus their freshman year, I sure as hell couldnt back when I was one.

LSU doing everything in its power to lower admission

Tech did this bullshite when I was there except I think you had to live in the dorm until you had 60 hrs. Exemptions were if you lived within a certain radius of campus, medical reasons, or if you lived in a fraternity house (could leave dorms at 30 hrs).
