The legislation would give the state’s 2.9 million motorists a way to download a copy of their driver’s license through an app that would be offered by the state Office of Motor Vehicles.

First state to offer electronic driver's licenses
Still can't pay with a debit card at the DMV

That will work perfectly!

You think all those old north LA fricks in the legislature are gonna approve an app that they won't even be able to download on their flip phone?

I predict this will be an unmitigated disaster

The app will cost $3-5... so it's another way for a desperate state to make a little money.
Whatever, doesn't seem to hurt anyone. Carry on.

As long as JBE hires the Obamacare.gov programmers, it should work just fine.

Back in the 90's I was able to renew my license by getting a form notarized and they sent a sticker to affix to the back of my old license. The front of course showed an expired date.
Got pulled over by a state trooper. He said "your license is expire, sir."
I hate him look on the back at the sticker. He had no idea that these existed. He didn't hassle me with it and (I guess) took my word for it.
Having said that the smart phone version will be a disaster. If someone loses their phone or it otherwise croaks, you have no licence.

Who does not immediately replace their dead or lost phone?
Get new phone.
Reinstall app.
Login and retrieve license info.
What happens when you lose your wallet?

Where do you go, big baller?

This sounds like a terrible idea. Hackers for the win.

Not a baller, just not a poor. Private title companies provide all DMV services for higher fees and no lines. Will never DMV again.

Well that is just not true. They offer many services, but they don't do everything yet.
