Looking for a new driver (golf, not Mrs. Daisy)

I'm thinking about getting a new driver, and was looking for some recommendations from the OT golf pros who regularly put it out there over 300.
I'm a not very good 6'2" 37 year old left hander (if I'm in the low/mid 50s for 9 that's a normal round). I can hit it moderately far, usually a line drive, but not always straight. I usually get a little bit of slice right to left. I think I'm liking the clubs that have the adjustable weights to correct certain shot quirks like mine, and it seems like the TaylorMade clubs are a good option.
Wouldn't want to spend over $100. Perhaps something like this LINK? I'd be open to used clubs as long as they're in decent shape.
Any thoughts? Or is this something where I'd need to go get evaluated?

2ndswing has some good used stuff. So does eBay. If that club is in good shape buy it. SLDR is a good driver

Go to Nevada Bobs and buy one their used drivers. You can get a decent one for around $100.

Nevada Bob is a poster, isn't he? I was actually on second swing today, but there are so many brands and models on there, I had no idea what I should even be looking for.

I've had an R11 ever since they came out. I love that club...I would imagine they aren't over $100...you could possibly get a few newer models from TaylorMade I imagine.
My brothers RBZ 3W has a nice sweet spot off the tee, too. I hear good things about the SLDR...

I have no idea. Nevada Bob's is a golf specific store that sells used clubs. Most of them have a trackman that you can use to hit the clubs before buying them as well.

Gotcha. I'll see if they have those stores in Chicago.

Kind of related question...it seems like the trend is toward a more stiff shaft on drivers, I assume for control? I've got a knockoff metal driver now with a flexible graphite shaft, so that would be quite a departure for me.

I would seriously look at the used Ping G series woods. You can find them at your price point and they have a huge face and high launch angle. Very good drivers that have aged well.
Taylormade drivers are nice but aren't for low hitters unless you want to keep it that way, they have a low launch from my experience with a narrow lower half making them tougher to hit for someone with a slice/fade and misses to the heel.
Ping is your best option for what you are looking for.

Try looking on Taylormade Golf Preowned

I just got a SLDR in the "Excellent" condition. It looked like it had never been hit. I paid 130 with shipping.

I've probably wasted a good 650$ on TM bubble burners Dawai's and expensive customs and still get as much good out of my 45$ Walmart brand graphite jumbo..
just for those who think it's all about the club and not the person swinging it..

If you aren't a woman or old get a stiff shaft. You will be able to contol it better. If you have control issues a higher loft driver will normally be better.
I would highly recommend a lesson and a pack of birdie balls. GOOD practice will help more than any equipment ever will.

the shaft is much more important than the club head. I had a driver with a shaft that wasn't worth a crap and I sprayed it everywhere. I just could never hit it consistently. Put a new shaft (a little stiffer with much less torque) in it and it was night and day. Started hitting fairway consistently and was once again able to work the ball effectively.

global golf is a good place to find used clubs. 2nd swing is a little more expensive, but they also come in high on trade in values. ebay is also good place to find them. google "most forgiving drivers [insert year]" to get some good ideas. there are tons of options for a high handicapper looking for game improvement.

I think you're correct about the low trajectory. I have a new R15 which is set to 9.5 loft and the ball seems to glide lower than my R7 did with 9.5 loft. It's deceptive though because my distance has increased. With both weights set up center of the club it definitely adds a few yards on your drive.
I question going with a regular shaft instead of stiff. Wish I'd had the option to test both beforehand.

I played with the club pro 2 weekend ago. Both with the same driver but he was swinging a stiff shaft and me a regular. I was out driving him by 10-20 yards without fail. I don't consider myself a long hitter by any means.

Taylormade or Titleist. You can't go wrong with either driver. find a shaft that fits your swing, it only helps.

You should've gotten the big bertha on prime day for $125. Has adjustable weights, can adjust for slicing, it's awesome. Worked out quite well this weekend for me
