He traded her to me and ended up marrying the mom of the kid I traded to him so I guess he won. The kid I got was the best athlete in the league but had a shite attitude after tournament ball and was not a great asset to the team.
Damn. Using trades in 8 year old softball to snag a MILF. Bold strategy cotton, i like it.

Totally justified in being pissed but I doubt that ranks in the top 100 of all time low little league parent moments.
This jackass who use to work for my dad quit his job and put his son in home school at 10 years old because he was convinced he was a future big leaguer. Kid ended up playing a year of juco ball and quit. Wife left him too. I guess making her the bread winner for 10 years while they traveled the country didn't go over well.

Never played organized sports growing up I see...

What the hell is wrong with parents now a days? I told Ben I would've told that dad to f-off and to move the kid up then.
Sounds like you and your friend are the problem. Since it's only 7 & 8 yr olds what's the big deal in letting the kid play for his dads friend. Sounds like your friend thinks he's Joe Madden and is only worried about himself and how many games he can win

You tell your pitcher to throw at his ear hole every time you face him.

When my kids were growing up playing sports, I could not imagine calling a coach and saying he's not going to play but only for a certain coach.
Billy Cannon did this w/ Billy Jr. back in the late 70s.
Dr. Cannon sent a letter to every MLB team except the New York Yankees, telling them not to draft Billy Jr., he was going to play college football. Got him into a buttload of trouble w/ Bowie Kuhn, the MLB commissioner at the time. As I recall, Kuhn declared Billy Jr. ineligible for the draft as a result of Dr. Cannon's shenanigans.

how am i the problem? I'm just telling you the story. And my friend is humble guy...if he was worried about himself or how many games he can win then he would have not traded 1 for 1. And he would have made a big deal about what happened.

I believe they just traded 1 for 1. His 1st for that other coaches 1st. Kept it simple
If his coaching skills are the same as his negotiating skills, he's in for a long season.

The new low was set with travel ball

Is travel ball just a team that plays tournaments instead of being in a league?

Ben is just a down to earth good guy. He and his brothers all played college ball.
but the parent knew the other coach. The coaches should have discussed it prior to drafting.
One year in legion we did that draft shite and my entire team for the previous 2-3 years was all split up...i ended up with a terrible coach. Worst season I can remember.

This.
The adults have ruined youth baseball.

We had a problem where coaches and Asst Coaches were guaranteed to coach their kid. Dads would sign up as HC, get their son as an automatic pick then get their buddies to be Asst Coaches and stack the roster.
Our league had this problem as well. At first they tried to fix it by making the coaches spend their first picks on their own kids, but that really didn't help if the kids were studs. So now we have 1 official HC and 1 official Assistant and those are the only two kids guaranteed to get on the team.

Make him a deal--everyone has a price.

Yep they play tournaments every w/e/other w/e. Pay tons of $ and are constantly travelling. They play a lot more games than most leagues and usually only have 11 kids on the roster. I wish we had that when I was a kid TBH

This is an argument used by many parents who "demand" a trade after the draft.
Well... your kid needs to learn to meet different people and deal with different people. He/she will survive playing for another coach... heck, he/she might even like it if you, idiot parent, give them a chance to.
Otherwise, don't even bother with a draft. Just ask each parent what coach they want their kid to play for. If you only end up with 2 teams and 37 kids are on one team and 10 on the other, then that's just how it goes. Let the 37 parents fight each other for playing time for the kid.
