I believe they just traded 1 for 1. His 1st for that other coaches 1st. Kept it simple.

Is the other team the Patriots?

I'd have taken NO less than the other guys 1st two picks.

The we it was done when I was kid was each coach got 3 freezes, usually the two coaches' sons and one other player, then the draft commenced from there.

That's legit, if you're coaching you at least want your son to have his friends on the team. If his friends suck you don't use the freeze, you just draft him higher than he should be.

The league President should have told the parent that his kid would either play for the team that drafting him or he would need to find another league to play in. This is the fault of the League, not the parent or the coaches.

I don't know how it worked when I was a kid, but I got separated from a lot of friends when I was younger, and it was honestly really good for me.

The new coach knew baseball better and I actually made the all-star team as a catcher, which wouldn't have happened if I had stayed on the other team.

fricking stupid. It would have been too late to switch to the next league, there draft was over as well. Plus, they wouldn't have been able to pick the coach AND kid would have played less at that age..

You, errrrrrrrr, he should have stood his ground..he's a bitch.

There are some crazy parents in both rec and travel ball. I mean some of these people are freakin clueless. Got cussed out at the dugout during a game because his kid wasn't playing. This was 3rd inning. He let out 3 eff bombs. 7-8 girl slow pitch. True story.

If I knew where I could easily get better coaching for my son he'd be playing there...but if there's no appreciable difference in coaching then I let him choose based on friends. He'll have a dilemma this year after tryouts again.

Wow , a draft ! Terrebonne Parish Recreation gives us our rosters. Sometimes a parent has had a problem with a coach and they'll move their kid. But a draft...hmm
We have 12 this year and only 2 have played baseball before

I've never heard of a draft and trades for little league

i guess you never coached...around here, for baseball and girls softball, coaches draft their team starting when the kids are 7 years old.

I know here in Texas when I was younger we had it where at tryouts every kid was graded like 1-5, five being the best players. From there like each team could only draft like two No. 5 players on their team and they went down the line from there.

When I was umping a 9-10 little leage in La, in one season i called cops on a coach, cleared the bleachers from all fans til a game was over and almost attacked by an overzealous grandpa.

It was my last year umping.

I feel ya.

I coached my nephew's 3rd grade basketball team last year. The kids, with an exception or two, were great. The so-called "adults" I had to deal with are what made me swear off volunteering for anything like that ever again.

If the dad only wants his son to play with coach X, why did he put his son in a draft to start with?

Yeah I coached the year before being an ump. It was basically the bad news bears. Bunch of kids no one else wanted and some good looking moms roped me into taking over.

Fathers never came to practice or games, only the moms. Weird situation. My players parents were fine but they werent the norm.

I could not imagine calling a coach and saying he's not going to play but only for a certain coach.

Maybe they didn't like the coach that picked his kid. Maybe the coach that picked his kid is an a-hole and isn't a good coach.

Should've told the dad, "Good luck in the 9&10 year-old league. Have a nice day."

Gotta love baws living their baseball failures vicariously through their 8 year olds

So when you say this, does this also apply to dad's that let their girls play softball? What about moms that let their girls play volleyball or do gymnastics?

Does your theory that "baws are living vicariously through their 8 year olds" only apply to baseball?
