Got an email from our school that says they’re monitoring and will send out a text if they decide to close. That was before EBR announced so we shall see.

ETA: aftercare ends at 5:30 I bet they’ll text at 5:35

Because bubba has to burn one of his precious sick/vacation days to stay home with his bratty kids.
Come on man.

They do build days in for weather.

So the school year ends earlier than planned if all of the weather days aren’t used?

No. Good weather just results in smarter kids that year.

The contingency days could also eat into the holidays and double jam you up if you have a vacation planned.

This is so annoying. Back in my day I had to ride my bike uphill both ways in the rain to school

Tangipahoa closed.

I had some empathy for people who threw a fit over things like this, but no more. Our schools were open yesterday, but a letter was sent home before the Easter break that notified parents that any absences yesterday would be excused because of the eclipse.

I didn’t really think anything of it until a few minutes before the morning bell yesterday. The middle school that I teach at has an enrollment of 324 students in grades 6-8. Yesterday, a grand total of 27 of those students came to school. We couldn’t do anything other than combine them by grade level and sit around all day.

There is no doubt in my mind that a significant number of parents who didn’t send their kids to school yesterday will be up in arms about school being closed tomorrow.

We are raising a soft generation. Scared of the sun, scared of the rain, scared of the wind, scared of the sneaux. What the hell will they be able to do other than make phone calls and text????

The OT is a bunch of curmudgeons now. We are only happy when we are complaining about young people, government and weather. This is all three rolled into one, so this is really in our bailiwick to complain about!

I loved weather days when I was growing up. I am not sure why the OT is so against them. Let kids have fun of having an unplanned day off a few times a year.
