Letter to the Reveille: LSU Greeks should have 'Day of disobedience on game day.'

In light of the unprecedented trampling on the constitutional rights of innocent Greek member students without due process by LSU President F. King Alexander, I’m encouraging the Greek community to resist mightily. While the despicable Greek Life “Week of Reflection” memo is comprehensive, they didn’t cover everything.

I exhort all Greeks, current students and alumni, to have a day of disobedience on gameday this Saturday. The most outrageous act would be to simply go to the Parade Ground and game as normal. What are they going to do? Suspend everyone?

Alexander reminds me of Dean Wormer in Animal House who, when in frustration exclaimed, “No more fun of any kind,” as the members of Delta marched triumphantly out of the disciplinary hearing.

Delta Kappa Epsilon could hang an appropriate sheet on their house. The Deke sheets are biting commentary and often are classics. It could say something like, “See you in court,” or “King got your tongue?” I’ll leave that up to the experts.

Perhaps even more effective is if all Greeks wore duct tape over their mouths on gameday in protest. They could assemble in groups of less than 10 and simply cover all of the tailgaters. This would generate lots of conversation, most of which would be favorable to them.

Finally Greeks should immediately halt all donations to LSU and its foundations until this wicked edict is consigned to the dustbin of history. Geaux Tigers!

I have to admit. The DKE sign outside the house last home game was funny. But that was a lifetime in today's mass media.

"Dreamers Welcome. We need the dues."

Wonder if they will have one up this week?

I like the idea of the disobedience weekend. All they would be doing is basically the normal game day stuff they have done for forever.

Are LSU officials going to be looking for letters and the little pins the sororities wear on game day? Are they going to make everyone wearing Greek attire take it off?

Maybe they should just boycott the game and instead go party at Fred's and bogies. At least those establishments value Greek life's economic impact. Imagine if no Greek students were sitting in the student section saturday.

They could picket the office of AA affairs. Its on the backside of the Bookstore building. Not a bad tailgating spot either. Kill two birds with one stone.

Only if I get to make a rousing speech on top of some debris.

Brothers, mothers, and others,
Greeks and freaks,
GDI's and normal guys,
sororities and minorities,
give me but a moment and I shall give back a fire that burns for days.
A false King has seized upon a tragedy in order to trample the rights of good men and women beneath the jackboots of tyranny,
His foul agents are amongst you, hoping to throttle merriment like a babe in the crib,
It is the King's wish to crush the spirit that lives here among sacred oaks,
To bend the lot of you to the will of he and his carpetbagging lackeys,
His upjumped deans of nonsense want nothing more than to plunge a dagger into the heart of LSU and turn it into another bland PC cesspool,
And if these attacks on Greeks continue, it shall only embolden them,
I am no Greek, but the writing on the wall is clear,
This is but a beachhead, the first step of an iron boot determined to crush the tradition from this place,
Unless a stand is made, unless students of every stripe unite against this threat,
Every facet of life here shall fall victim to the cancer the King emboldens,
Kappa and Theta,
Alpha and Beta,
Omega and Mu,
Unless we stand as one today,
Tomorrow they'll come for YOU!
So put aside your petty squabbles and face towards the bell,
It's tolling now for your demise,
So mark and hear it well,
Let every Tiger, Greek or not,
Roar back, defiance bring,
And rebel fingers stab and say,
"We bow before No King!"

I am unclear how they plan to enforce this edict as it pertains to tailgating. Are they going to demand ID from every group of 10 or more college age persons and then run those names against the database of fraternities? What happens when the police roll up and people walk away? Are they going to chase them down and detain them?

So, 99.995 % of a group had their civil liberties taken away from them without due process and you are okay with this?

Nevertheless, the United States Supreme Court held in NAACP v. Alabama (1958) that freedom of association is an essential part of freedom of speech because, in many cases, people can engage in effective speech only when they join with others.[3]

You can lookup the decision on Wiki and then the references.

Their constitutional rights were violated, too bad you don't give a shite.

My niece is a Chi O in her senior year; and that's the only reason why I give a shite about it.

Is gthog's post about violating the 1st amendment true?

It's seems like the right to assemble on the parade grounds is being taken away without due process.

No doubt.

I don't understand what they think they can do to stop Greeks from tailgating. If anything they have less restrictions on them now.

I can't believe they actually think they can enforce this. They threatened us with the same "if there are more than 10 of y'all together its a fraternity event" bullshite when I was in college too. So they're saying you can't hangout with your friends at a tailgate?

The administrators at LSU are a joke. They are over paid for the kind of decisions they make and actually think they do a good job.

FKing is going to be in college wagging that prodigious Nanny Finger every day of his professional life . Greeks only get four years to enjoy it . Sorry the bureaucrats are devising more and more puritanical reasons to take that from them. But they take policing your fun very very seriously.
