the plasmas are disappearing because the manufacturers do not make enough of a profit margin and cost more to produce than similiar sized LED's

I recently purchased a 60" samsung 7100

Samsung has about 6 different models to choose from and I went with the 7100 theres two models above it but the prices start to get ridiculous.

I am happy with it but the screen is a little glossier than I would have liked and the internet on it is really slow.

PQ is great the only real knock I have on it is that its edge lit and the completely black scenes shows some flashlighting. Every TV I demoed had it and the samsung seemed to have it the least at this price point.

Also go as big as you can i went from a 50" to a 60" but could have been fine with a 70"

CNet. Then Newegg. Then Amazon and Best Buy.

I have the Vizio M series 65". It has been a great TV. I came from a Samsung plasma. The blacks are not as good but they are a lot closer than a lot of other LED's. I do not like the uneven lighting LED's show. The smart features are useless to me. I have an XBOX with more apps. You could also get a chromecast or roku dongle. If I were to do it again I would have gone 65" plasma from Panasonic. The glare shields on them are better than you think.

Just got a new 65" Panasonic plasma. Couldn't pass on one of the last great plasma displays.

I bought Sony instead of the samsung and knew I messed up the day it arrived.

It's fine, but saw the samsung I wanted at a friends house, it was much better.

Get the one with 240 or 480 refresh rate. The 120 Tvs are for Walmart.

I just bought a 60 and a 70 inch M series vizio from costco. The 60 will go in our den and the 70 in a dedicated media room. Paid $2100 for the 70 and $850 for the 60. Add $150 in warranties and i'm covered for anything over the next 5 years.

I'll hook them up next weekend when we move into our new house. I was choosing between Vizio and Samsung. CNET seemed to favor the Vizio overall with price considered. The biggest swing for me was the input lag for video games.

Vizio quality is considered pretty good now. I would have grabbed a 65 inch plasma if I could have found one at a decent price. Not so easy now.

With the Costco warranty I can take it back at any time in the next two years with no questions asked. If I don't like it then I will trade it for the Samsung.

May be a dumb question, but why aren't there any super AMOLED TVs out on the market?

I own a Panasonic plasma, which to me, the picture couldn't be better. However, my Samsung Note 3 has a super AMOLED screen, and the blacks are inky black... just like a plasma.

Cost too high, yields would be terrible. Shorter lifespan right now as well.

Panasonic plasma hands down, but it is getting tough.

Samsung has great marketing because the TVs they made from 2008-11 are plagued with their cheap crap. Ask anyone with a blown capacitor on the TCON board.

No matter what you do, if you can get the tv cheaper without the "smart" features, do it. Those smart features will be useless in a few years when the manufacturer doesn't dedicate any resources to update tv software that makes them no money

Marketing gimmick

learn about refresh rates

If you watch a lot Blu-rays then you might notice a difference on 120hz. Or you are wanting to watch a lot of "3d".

Just realize that it is pure marketing.

Sharp has been the leader in large TVs for a long time. They don't have the flash that Samsung has created the last few years, but unless you are getting the top of the line Samsung (not the largest, the best), then you need to consider Sharp first.

Who watches regular DVD's on an HDTV? That's like buying a Ferrari and getting discount tires put on it. Bluray players are very cheap now and the discs aren't much more expensive either.
