this is her trial on the 12/7/16 charge of 2nd offense DWI. remember that she was out on bond on the charge from this arrest, when she killed her victim on the causeway. those charges (vehicular homicide, DWI, etc) are pending in jefferson parish.
also recall that her attorney (ralph whalen) is very well connected, and has defended aaron broussard, tom wilkinson, and other well known figures in and around NOLA.
finally, recall that her 1st offense DWI was resolved by pre-trial diversion, and no longer "counts".
if her attorney can continue to postpone trial on the 12/7 2nd DWI until the JP charges go to trial, it will prevent aggravating circumstances (prior DWI) from affecting her sentencing if convicted of vehicular homicide. this could all be part of a plea deal on everything, as well.
meanwhile, james blackmond remains dead at last check

The trial of a Covington woman facing a DWI charge from an incident that occurred several months before she was accused of causing a fatal crash while driving drunk on the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway has been continued until Dec. 19. Olivia Matte was scheduled for trial Tuesday (Oct. 10) in 22nd Judicial District Court in Covington in connection with her Dec. 7, 2016, arrest by Louisiana State Police on the North Shore but the proceeding was postponed at the request of her attorney.
The postponement marked the second time the trial was delayed. It had originally been scheduled for May 9 before being continued until Tuesday.

let's compare this to our endymion drunk driver, who injured multiple people, but didnt kill anyone, and had no priors:
matte's bond was $126,000 BTW
quote:
Neilson Rizzuto, the driver who stands accused of plowing his pickup truck into a crowd of people gathered to watch the Krewe of Endymion Mardi Gras parade on Feb. 25, pleaded guilty to thirteen misdemeanor vehicular negligent injury charges Thursday morning (Sept. 7) in Orleans Parish Criminal District Court.
quote:
On Feb. 25, authorities allege Rizzuto plowed head-on into dozens of spectators gathered along the outskirts of the annual Endymion parade in Mid-City. Crash victims ranged in age from 2 to 56, authorities said, and included New Orleans residents, eight out-of-state tourists and an NOPD lieutenant who sustained shoulder and knee injuries as well as a broken leg. Rizzuto has remained jailed since his arrest, unable to make a bond set at $404,000.

Because she's possibly cute, various news stories indicate she was a bartender and likely put-out. That's enough for the OT.
This pisses me off, no end. We all know Broussard will be screwed in the ground when he dies, and Tommy Wilkinson was a behind-the-scenes player for years, kind of like Greg Buisson.
Meanwhile this person killed a person, is getting continued and walks free, because of "the law."

Not for this crime, but sometimes I feel like the world needs a dexter when lawyers, judges, and people in general get away with crazy crimes
