if her attorney can continue to postpone trial on the 12/7 2nd DWI until the JP charges go to trial, it will prevent aggravating circumstances (prior DWI) from affecting her sentencing if convicted of vehicular homicide. this could all be part of a plea deal on everything, as well.

Olivia Matte's DWI trial postponed a 3rd time

Olivia Matte was scheduled for trial Tuesday (Dec. 19) in 22nd Judicial District Court in Covington in connection with her Dec. 7, 2016, arrest by Louisiana State Police on the North Shore. But the proceeding was postponed until April 24 at the request of her attorney, a court officials said.

as always, a connected attorney is worth whatever the cost

The woman accused of causing a fatal crash on the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway while driving drunk in 2017 pleaded guilty Tuesday (April 24) to first offense DWI in an incident that occurred several months before the bridge fatality.

Olivia Matte, 27, of Covington, was sentenced to six months in jail, which was suspended by state Judge William J. "Rusty" Knight of the 22nd Judicial District.

Knight ordered Matte to serve two years of active probation, attend DWI and substance abuse classes and pay a $600 fine plus court costs. He ordered her to remain on house arrest until the charges are resolved in the Causeway case in Jefferson Parish.

Matte also pleaded guilty to improper lane use, for which Knight sentenced her to a $50 fine plus court costs.

The vehicular homicide and other charges are pending in 24th Judicial District Court in Jefferson Parish, with a pre-trial conference scheduled for May 14. She pleaded not guilty to the charges on June 2, 2017.

so...

1st offense DWI expunged by pre-trial diversion.
2nd offense DWI now reduced to 1st offense, suspended sentence + probabtion and community service.
3rd offense DWI + vehicular homicide charges still pending.
olivia matte still free, james blackmond still dead, over one year later

olivia matte pleads guilty to vehicular homicide

LINK

quote:

Judge Glenn Ansardi of the 24th Judicial District Court accepted the plea from Olivia Matte, of Covington, who faced a vehicular homicide charge and other accusations for her role in a crash that killed James Blackmon, 37, of Mississippi in March 2017. Investigators say Matte rear-ended Blackmond's vehicle on the Causeway, pushing it on top of the guard rail.

quote:

Ansardi asked Matte if she realized that she was also pleading guilty to misdemeanors of vehicular negligent injuring, careless operation, and operating a vehicle while under suspension. Matte said "yes" to the judge's queries. Prosecutors have said Matte's actions also harmed Blackmond's 44-year-old passenger, Kelly Johnson Jr. Ansardi told Matte she faces a sentence of five to 30 years in prison.
