orleans parish. friend opened her car door and a passing cyclist hit it. no real injury and they exchanged info. now victim is claiming damages. What should i tell her to expect? should she law up or let insurance handle?

and yes, i'm fully aware that most responses will not help my cause. begin and thank you in advance.

I'd just let insurance take care of it.

But, that should be the damn biker's fault!

If you open your door and a passing car rips it off, is it the other drivers fault or yours?

I rest my case.

Tell her to expect that no matter how much she does not want them too, her insurance company is gonna offer the perp about $10k to $15K to go away, damaged or not.

Perps know this, that why weeks later they somehow are damaged....

I doubt a car would be driving close enough to the parked car so as to hit an open door as an idiot cyclist.

Depends on whether the driver is an unemployed hippie or not.

What?

You can't see how a driver can be close enough to a car door to rip it off?

Was your friend parked in a bike lane?

she was parked. midcity area. the biker left msg about getting her lawyer involved. i don't know to advise her to contact attorney or insurance first. my thought is that she is looking for a quick handout and doesn't have the stomach to face a real legal battle. am i wrong? i have no clue.

Car =/= bike
Bikers are smug assholes to whom the law does not apply, hence nothing is their fault.
