Depends on what has to be done to stop the leak. May be necessary to empty the tank before repairing the leaking flange.

Obviously depends on the severity of the problem, but if it’s something that can be fixed quickly

Everything seems to result in a major over reaction because it’s always done “out of an abundance of caution”. Fear keeps people in line. Have to keep the psychological pressure on at all times.

Or, you know, because there is a potential for a deadly gas cloud.

I started to explain the potential to some of these clowns but figured my time would be better spent cruising the pissed off deer thread

Whatever the site's reaction it is based off of protocol and the insurance companies have had their say as to what needs to happen based on what vessel and what quantity.

Wow are you headed out to the site? Being that they could be your tanks or at the very least how are your tanks secure with what is going on.

This absolutely has to be done. Ammonia has a very high vapor content. Thats why its so dangerous. They could get a new flange sent overnight. However, they may have overpressurized the tank causing a failure in which case the tank would have to be replaced as well. Seems to happen a lot at CF

If they think a gallon is bad, they better not take a walk through [redacted] on a windy day.

I wont be going to the site. We design and manufacture the tanks. They are sold by a distributor to CF. The distributor or our field service team would be the ones to visit the site and assess the tank.

I am just the supplier. We are not the contractors that do the installation or the ones filling the tanks. There are lots of factors that could cause the issue. If it is the flange, it is likely that they had too much pressure going into the tank. Bad news is that most new tanks are about a 12 week lead time.

Major traffic jam on Sunshine Bridge created by thousands of plaintiff lawyers from New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Despite the north winds this morning residents as far north as Baker are reporting breathing difficulty and watery eyes. Local emergency rooms and urgent care clinics in Baton Rouge are filling to capacity.

And people think ammonia is going to be a viable "green" fuel for the future...

Being that it was a flange leak and not one of the several pop off valves on the tank, you think the tank was over pressured and therefore needs to be condemned?

Yep. You sure do sell tanks.

I think the libtards are pushing hydrogen as the new "green" fuel.

Depends on where on the flange it is leaking. If it is a lower sidewall fitting and the leak is where the flange meets the tank, there could be a crack in the tank that would only be visible from inside the tank.

It also depends on the fitting. If it is a transition fitting, there could be a leak inside of the internals that could be replaced fairly easy.

Do you know if the tank was Stainless Steel or Polyethylene?
