Anyone have any other information? As to level of seriousness, length of time to handle?

Less than a gallon spilled.
No offsite impact.
Abundance of caution.
Never left the fenceline.

A chemical leak at the CF Industries plant in Donaldsonville has caused several road closures and a school to evacuate, officials say.

Obligatory: “where were all these leaky plants when I was in school?”

What’s the time frame on all of this before an “all clear” and back to normal? I would assume this could maybe take all morning atleast? If not all day?

If true this is a major over reaction to a small flange leak.

That’s what I was also thinking, but I don’t work on the plants so I wasn’t sure of the length of it.

Obviously depends on the severity of the problem, but if it’s something that can be fixed quickly you’re probably still looking at all morning before there’s an official “all clear” to the public.

Going to make sure they send all the contractor hands home before they call an all clear.

No half-day permits happening on a Thursday.

Depends on what has to be done to stop the leak. May be necessary to empty the tank before repairing the leaking flange.

Everything seems to result in a major over reaction because it’s always done “out of an abundance of caution”. Fear keeps people in line. Have to keep the psychological pressure on at all times.

Yeah if it reached the point of notifying the public, evacuating the school, etc. they’ll probably send contractors home regardless of how long it takes.

I was really talking about a public announcement that leak has been contained and there’s no hazard to the public, not a full “back to normal” at the site.
