Just not my cup o tea. And I do not have an engineering background
Applying to tax LLM programs. Also thinking of not even practicing law and doing compliance work w/ a fortune 500 company. But would have to travel two weeks out of the year for the first year, and take my series 7.

There certainly are, but not for 95% of lawyers.
Guess what your options are once you go to law school; be a lawyer or a job associated with your undergrad degree.
I don't know where this myth that you can do anything with a law degree came from.
Also no one should be going to law school right now.

that's a serious answer
Friend of mine is a plaintiff's attorney and has mentioned something about this.
He works 70-80 hours a week and because he has a family, he tries to come home early enough each day to see them. Ends up doing a lot of work on Saturday or Sunday.
His one hobby is watching football. He used to play tennis and videogames. Never does either anymore.
Also, because he's working for a firm that is experiencing quite a lot of growth, he rarely takes a vacation. He's making bank but his only real outside time is spent driving to the bank.

No it is a lie for 95% of people in law school. They can't do shite with their law degree besides be a lawyer

my late uncle went to law school, passed the bar and then went to work for the social security administration, never really knew what he did for them but he ended up being the head of the SSA in his region for the last few years of his career

Same in my neck of the woods.

You know me too well.
ETA: But, seriously, I was thinking things like that were much easier to do a long time ago.
I know a guy who makes ridiculous bank as a hospital administrator and he only has his bachelor's. You aren't getting those kinds of jobs these days.

many moons he retired at 60 when I was still at LSU ('78), didn't even make it a year, went in for gall bladder surgery and had a blood clot break free post surgery, he also was an Army Air Corps pilot in WWII, went in the aviation cadet program because he had had no college at that point, pretty interesting man

No. Because the market is so bad even older attorneys can no longer afford to retire. They're going to keep practicing and competing for your business far longer than they would have say 20 years ago.

My wife just said thank god, about time...LSU's Law school class of 2008 was the last to be on the good side of employment.
I suppose that's a win for ole TLEE.
I love to win.

Old lawyers are like cockroaches. Never quit and never die. I know one who is so old, his dad was born during Reconstruction. Still works 6 days a week.
