It was a great segue into the importance of recognizing when older lawyers lose their competency. He told a great story about a judge that didn't know when to retire. I'm ready to file a complaint with LADB as soon as some old lawyer forgets my name.

So now that we got all the OT lawyer ballers in one thread...what's the consensus best area of law to get into?

if you can get on with the dominant "big" Personal Injury firm in an area outside of huge metro areas, you can be pretty set

Really have no desire to do any trial work. Do some of these firms hire non trial attorneys? I really have no idea

Maybe if the tards running these schools dropped the tuition say....$30k per year, they'd have more money to prevent job cuts.
They are lawyers though, so they'll probably just sue someone for the lost money.

So should I look into going to law school?

How is the work in real estate? I've definitely thought about real estate

Patents/IP is the only thing worth while IMO. Otherwise, forget it.

It seems like the only available jobs are for IP/Patent lawyers

T'Ocean has an engineering background, so he may be able to do that. i think those are primarily T14-type jobs, though

The attorney who facilitated my house purchase seemed like the most boring, death-ridden guy on Earth. How do you read through thousands of pages of real estate contracts and not lose your fricking mind? Does the money make it that much fun?

Somebody that has that engineering background that's towards the top of their class id think has a great chance landing a job in that field in bigger markets. Even if just at a state law school.

While we're in this thread, I always wonder why do attorneys not seem to retire as soon or as often as other professions? Even the ones making bank.
