What's even better about this plan is that unlike the pipe dream developments in BR that are proposed and then forgotten, this will actually happen.
This was definitely in the "pipe dream" phase for about 8 years. They just had some very tenacious people who were devoted to it, and who would not give up.

When this is complete that area (on the downtown side of the bayou) will gentrify quick.
Kind of like what happened to the area around Armstrong Park, quickly after it was built?
I'm skeptically optimistic about this thing. If that makes sense.

The projects are still standing. But even when they're gone, they will just be replaced with "mixed income housing." If that land was subject to the free market, it would get revamped very quickly.

Bacchanal is awesome. A few tips:
I would get their early. 630ish. Any later and you will be waiting forever and ever for a table to open up outside.
Sit down at a table. Go inside to the wine store and get a bottle. They have buckets if you want it chilled. Bring it back to the table. Then, go get a menu from the food window outside. Peruse it then go order. The food window is cash only.

Right. This thing begins in the same "mixed income housing" area.

Great advice, thanks

Armstrong Park wasn't "built," it's always been there. They just changed the name and threw up a couple of statues and redid the sidewalks. Anyway I don't think it was really intended it to gentrify the area considering it is literally right next to housing projects - how do you gentrify a project? That area isn't even comparable to Parkway area.
Sure the whole thing might go tits up, anything might. But there really is this core group of people who are super-devoted to this project, and have been for years. They've shepherded it this far. And that's different from Armstrong Park which, if I recall, was built because Nagin decided he wanted some big project he could put his name on, and he didn't care how much of the city's money he pissed away in the process.

I'm two minutes walk south of Canal. No revitalization for me.

I wasn't referring to Nagin's debacle in Armstrong Park, I was referring to the original idea behind the park itself. It wasn't "always there."
Again, I'm really hopeful this thing turns out great, and I'm always happy to see people try to utilize areas in a city not currently in use.

There is no doubt that this thing is going to work out great.
For you guys that haven't been in the city in a while, you would be amazed at the amount of construction and activity going on.
One thing I haven't heard much about recently is the fate of the WTC and the land it sits on. Did they ever make up their mind with that issue?

Nah, still a bit more shaking down of potential developers to be had with that project.

Its so ridiculous when any government owns a building like that. Just sell the motherfricker and be done with it.
Whatever happens to it will happen if someone thinks money can be made.

Bump to continue talking about this and other great N.O. developments.

How is the Market Street project in the warehouse district going? I haven't been by there in a few months.
What is the expected completion date of the new street car line?
I think the last "major" area that I'm really looking forward to seeing come back to life is Tulane. It's happening. Been slow and stubborn, but the closer the hospitals get to being done, the faster things are going to happen.

I went out there a couple weeks ago. Once the soil warms up and the plants come out, it'll be even better. The Piety Wharf portion was pretty awesome. Didn't get pictures of it, though.
