I did not ask mawmaw to post pics of her granddaughter. I'm sure someone on here will though.

the sitter was a regular and going for short trips in canoe was not unusual. She heard there was an eagle sighting on the lake and wanted to do something fun for the girl so they went out - leaving her phone because she didn't want to get it wet. No eagle, but they saw a blue egret and were excited and followed it some distance and got turned around. The sitter covered the girl in mud to keep her from mosquitoes but she herself is covered in bites. She stayed positive for the girl through a night of hell. At light she climbed a tree to get her bearings on what direction to go. She got them out safely. It's easy to sit and judge. Try some kindness. The sitter is my granddaughter and she is a wonderful, bright, athletic, kind and loving young woman. These judgements are real and they hurt.

Glad they were found safe. Your granddaughter did a great job.

You should be very proud of how your granddaughter took action to keep the girl safe. Remaining calm and taking the actions she did very well had a positive effect on the little girls psyche as well as hers.

From the sound of it, her calmness under immense stress saved both their lives. You'd be surprised at what a small amount of stress can do to even the most seasoned outdoorsman.

I'm happy they're both alive and well.

Young pretty woman covered in mud? Sexy!

I bet the babysitter's not bad either.

Super respect to the babysitter. Since my son was little I've tried to stress to him that whenever it comes to any water situation, the number 1 rule is to always remain calm and not panic. It sounds like this girl did just that. Let me also praise her for actually spending time with the kid and taking her on an adventure. They went looking for an eagle? fricking A. So many people would have just plopped them in front of a tv or given them an iPad until the parents came home. The babysitter appears a very impressive young woman.

Regardless of their motives for leaving, your granddaughter is the reason they were found safe, and alive. The fact that she was able to remain calm for the child and get them to a safe location is amazing. Props to her. She is the reason they didn't die.
