Pretty damning stuff. Had Serpas not already stepped down, he'd probably be fired today.

Basically the NOPD sex crimes unit did literally next to nothing to investigate sex crimes for three years.

NOPD is the biggest joke in law enforcement I've ever seen.

At least the Orleans Parish Courts are zealous about following-up on DWI cases.

wow!

Detective A:

Had 13 cases involving child abuse, and failed to file any follow-up reports on 11 of them.
Did not follow up on two cases of infants with head trauma, even after hospital staff reported suspicions of foul play.
Did not follow up on allegations of sexual assault involving a 2-year-old with a sexually transmitted disease.
Wrote that one child victim did not disclose any information and closed the case, even though records from an interview with another professional indicated the child had said that someone living in the same house had sexually and physically abused him or her.

Detective B:

Failed to follow up on three cases when the state DNA lab reported finding DNA evidence.

Detective C:

Reported that the state DNA lab found no DNA evidence in a rape kit that it turns out was never actually delivered to the state lab.
Wrote three supplemental reports dated in 2010 and one dated in 2011, but created all four of those computerized reports on the same day in 2013, shortly after the IG asked for them.

Detective D:

Reported that the state lab found no DNA evidence on a case where the lab report stated there was DNA evidence.
Refused to send a rape kit to the state lab and marked in a log book that "the sex was consensual," even though the alleged victim said it was not.

Detective E:

Handled two cases in which the state DNA lab's requests for information from NOPD were ignored. In one case, the lab found a DNA match and needed confirmation from NOPD, but got no response. In the other, the lab notified NOPD it sent the wrong rape kit, but got no response.
Wrote a supplemental report dated in 2010 and another dated in 2011, but created both of those computerized reports on the same day in 2013, shortly after the IG asked for them.

So you are saying the Destrahan Teachers could have gotten away with it if they were in NOLA?

Unreal. I guess this gives the Country Club rape girl some credit.

The fact that detective D was allowed to continue to work for NOPD is disgusting.

Seriously, NOPD needs to be completely taken over by the FBI the same way the army ran the Iraqi army for 10+ years.

People need to be fired. They should start with those Detectives and, most importantly, their Sgt. and Lt. who are the ones who directly supervise and ensure things like follow-ups, report filing, evidence collection, etc.

Everything about that story is unsat from a law enforcement perspective. Zero excuses (and I tried to think of one just for the hell of it).

but that's exactly how most of the OT would have handled it. They claim that chicks are lying most of the time.

Those detectives were more than likely cops for a long time before they became detectives

I am missing your point here. They shouldn't be fired because they were officers before they were detectives?

They should be more fired than regular because they were officers before becoming detectives?

They are less/more culpable because of prior experience?

I am confused.

How do they even get to this point?

What a dump. The leadership there is apparently completely useless.

this proves that THAT chick was lying and was found out upon investigation. That's what an investigation is...finding out what really happened.

I had a run in with Akron a few weeks ago, after he was assigned/demoted to patrol. A vacant house, across the street from the facility I manage, was inhabited by crackheads and one overdosed. Several ambulances, fire trucks, etc responded. A NOPD patrol car staggered in very late and the cop stayed in it for 5 mins. I approached it hoping to get help in keeping the crackheads out of the vacant house. I approach, hold out my hand to shake and introduce myself. He refuses to accept my handshake and after I ask him for assistance, he snidely retorts "Do I look like someone who can help you?" I responded that I was sorry to have bothered him. He then yells at me, "Are you being sarcastic? I ought to arrest your arse." I told him that last I checked sarcasm was not a crime, and that I truly was sorry for having bothered a police officer with a request for help.
Yep, that was my encounter with that useless POS.
