If kids aren't at school or mowing a lawn then they are trespassing in my opinion. This thug piece of shite was probably on his way to commit arson or something. To hell with kids.

When I was a kid the same thing happened -- someone stretched a wire across a dirt bike trail and a guy rode into it. It destroyed his voice box and he will never talk again.

Should be charged with criminal assholery and negligent get-off-my-lawn-ness.

I see that but what one views as "common area" is still someones property

Agreed, they are very painful. I got caught up in a ski rope once and had 2 very similar marks around my waist.

I hate rope burns and paper cuts more than slashes. No injury I have needed stiches for hurt as bad as the time I tried to grab the ski rope with my bare hand when I was falling down. Ouch. cut deep and that white open tissue.

I'm not saying he shouldn't, but be charged with what exactly?

Many jurisdictions have statutes against such traps in residences and on land.

That's some fricked up evil shite. The worst I have ever seen was someone wrapped toilet paper around two trees on a trail and made a "wall". Just didn't know anyone that wanted to really hurt the hell out of someone.

This happened to me. Luckily, it hit just below my neck on my chest.

There was some land behind a church that I lived next to that someone put motorcycle trails through and the owner didn't care about people using it for this reason. The church however is one of those fundie Christian churches that does the whole no dating/courting shite like the Duggars.

Apparently they didn't appreciate people motorcycle riding behind their church so they put up a bit of clear coated wire across the paved entrance to the trails. I was unfortunately the first one to come across it on my pit bike. I normally didn't wear a helmet when riding the pit bike, but did that day. Only ended up with a concussion, a few stitches in my arms from the road rash, and a nice long scar across the top of my chest and arms from the wire. A neighbor saw it happen and got me to a hospital.

We took the wire down and then put motion cams to try and catch the church doing it again, but I think the church had cams up prior to the incident and knew we were watching them to see if they were the ones behind it.

No, they are "common" among adjoining residents.

Also and most people don't know this. In most areas, you don't technically own the land between your sidewalk and your street.

reminds me of the video of the tow truck pulling a truck out of a ditch and the cable wasn't marked and a motorcycle cruises through

..and leaves the guy's head behind

I don't think this is necessarily true. It could be a common area between neighbors or a common area of an apartment complex etc.

even if it was private property (i know it wasn't), i would guess that it's probably illegal to set a "trap" like that.

that's certainly possible, but i doubt this guy had the authority to set up the rope.

I'm pretty sure it's irrelevant whether the land is public or private.

It doesn't really matter if private property or not. It doesn't matter if trespassing or not. Booby traps on your own land with the intent to kill/harm other humans are illegal.
