We kicked out some football players but not all. It was usually the freshman walkons. All roided up white dudes who drank the punch we made for girls and got pissed off when their overly aggressive advances got them laughed at.

The starters were great to party with.

DKE owns the land the house sits on, so the university is effectively powerless to do anything to them. At least, that is what i was told back in the day.

Not true. LSU kicked DKE off from 1984-1985 for destruction of property. DKE currently drug tests all its members voluntarily.

These drug tests will be the end of fraternities. No 18 year old kid getting his first true taste of freedom at college will want to join any club where they have to submit to things like this. It also discourages active members from paying dues. You want me to pay to be around and go to parties? Fine. You want me to pay then have to pay for a hair follicle drug test so I can be kicked out for smoking a joint? Kiss my arse.

Back during the days of beer trucks in the front lawn, we certainly would've kicked your arse out. Druggies belonged on Chimes Street at the Bayou.

I'm glad you guys managed to scare off all the crazed marijuana addicts before they became violent from too many hits off the ole peace pipe.

Eta also we can get kicked off for a single keg on the property. I assure you we would have just as many beer trucks etc as you old timers

We depledged a kid on sheer unsubstantiated rumors that he was an undercover narc.

Actually, I was being a bit sarcastic with that comment. Wanted to see if anyone else remembered that time the same way.

No joke, though, people did get booted with the quickness when they were caught with drugs at the house. There were no exceptions when I was in school. There were some fraternities that were looser, one in particular, but it dragged them down by the 90's. It's really hard to run a chapter when everyone is on X and coke, and half the pledge class goes to southeastern in hammond.

It was funny, though, back then there were such clear, delineated lines. Chimes street types and greeks were separated almost like segregation. Guys that got kicked out for drugs might surface months later on chimes street. "Man, we were walking to murph's the other night, and you wouldn't believe it. Smith was coming out of the bayou in a tie dye t-shirt." You would laugh now, but it was like that.

Very true of frats. Sororities had their 10% quota of artsy bohemian chicks. Somebody has to design the homecoming decorations.
