Glad to hear you stopped to help. So many people have the attitude that it's not their problem or there are tons of other people that can help, there's a bus full of people, etc.

Good for you, you taught your daughter a lesson tonight whether you realize it or not

I know someone who hit a guy walking onto the interstate to commit suicide. She was very messed up about it and had to get help.
Curious, was that in West Virginia? Near Charleston?

The guy was walking with no fear across this road…it was like he was expecting the traffic to stop for him to get to the bus.

That's exactly what it was.

Whether you're a pedestrian or a driver - if you value your life, be like a heavy construction worker and keep your head on a swivel. *Constantly* be fully aware of what is going on around you.

Lack of situational awareness can be deadly. If you haven't made full eye contact with that driver pulling up to the intersection, your life is at risk.

I hope this guy lives... for his sake as well as yours and your daughter's.

I know it won't be easy to clear the imagery... but I think it would help to know that the guy lived.

Bet there's going to be a crosswalk there in the future.

I'm not a fan of jaywalking tickets when the streets are clear, I think of it as a yield more than needing to wait. However, I see too often people casually walking into traffic during busy times in Atlanta. And the reactions of anger and insult when a car honks as it swerves to miss them baffle me. Have some people's biological drive to survive been thwarted by their "I dare you to hit me" attitudes?

Hope he lives as well. We are not allowing our daughter to check the news…

There will never be a cross walk, it is extremely busy highway/road that feeds into University of Kentucky..in the am, 4 lanes go in, one lane out with a turning lane…in the afternoon, it goes opposite.

I am feeling better now…my daughter just finally went to bed. The scene is right around the corner from my house.

It's going to be tough to get the image out of your head. You might want to seek counseling for your daughter. It can be pretty traumatic.

I went through something similar about six years ago. We were traveling through a rural area and I saw a guy riding a dirtbike on the shoulder coming my way. The SUV in front of me went to take a left into their house and didn't see him coming. He went from doing 50-60mph to a complete stop into the side of the SUV.

We pulled over and the bike was laying on top of him. He wasn't wearing a helmet. I recall a group of people around me and him with nobody doing anything. Engine fluid and gas was leaking all over him. I grabbed the bike off of him and called 911. He was is bad shape. I vividly remember his jaw was swollen and a few of his teeth on the ground. I didn't want to move him so I just kept telling him that he's going to be ok and the ambulance was coming.

Not sure if he made it but I cringe every time we pass that house.

It'll take a while to get your head straight but over time it'll get better.

I am so sorry to hear that you and your daughter had to witness something like that. Seeing a potentially fatal accident is hard on anyone, and I've seen a few in my time, but for a child it is especially hard.

If she's having trouble dealing with it, which is likely, then I agree that getting her some counseling is probably a good idea. Again, I am sorry you and your little girl had to see such a thing.

Thanks everyone for the thoughts, info, advice, prayers, etc. The trauma I have been through with my auto accident kind has me numb with this, not really messing with me but a tad bit. I am sure my PTSD sure flared up at the scene when I crossed the road to assist. I went though hell after my MVA, I was given a 2cd chance at life…hoping this is the same for the guy, I hope he had a guardian angel like I had.

My daughter is in good hands. FIL is a grief counselor and she already wrote in her journal her thoughts before going to bed. Have to watch out for her.

Hopefully he will. My understanding is that many head wounds look life threatening because of all of the blood.

Prayers sent, I hope he pulls through that sounds awful.

I can't even imagine what a dashcam video of that would be like.
