Idk where you live, but that couldn't be further from the truth. I've had steaks at both places. Applebee's is just awful, and their steaks are rubber. No redeeming qualities whatsoever

Every time I've gone to a mom and pop or some local place, it's basically tasted just like a chain restaurant. Maybe I don't have refined taste buds.

I shite on Applebee's because I think it's crap. It's low quality stuff for the most part. Acknowledging that doesn't make me cool.
I think that people who eat there have bad taste. Probably a lot of them because they don't know any better. Maybe they are from small towns that don't have a lot of options. I know that describes some of my extended family. But if you live in a city like New Orleans, Lafayette, or probably even Baton Rouge then you don't really have much of an excuse.

While I completely agree with you on a local level I used to work out of town for most of the year and if there was an Applebee's, Bennigan's or Outback near my hotel I would go there several times a week to have a few drinks, watch some sports on TV and check out the local talent!?.....and unwind from a hard day's work.
However it is not a place I would go in my hometown.
BTW, I know you from way back.

Applebee's is always packed here. And honestly is most places I see an Applebee's. I don't get it. People are gross though. They do have 3$ 22oz domestics though which is decent when I'm being a cheap arse. Ours is open till 3am which also blows my mind.

I would never choose to go to an Applebees but it is definitely far from the worst place I've ever eaten.
I do usually prefer local restaurants. But if someone wants to stop at one I won't complain.
And for people trashing "small town" people I've eaten at some of the best restaurants in small towns.
Natchitoches has some awesome places to eat (Landing, Mariners, Mamas& Papas to name a few) and it is a pretty small city.
Many small towns in LA have pretty darn good places to eat.

When I was living in Hammond and in college my buddy bartended at Applebee's which meant we got free beer. They also had half price appetizers after 9 so we got like 6 sliders for $3 and free beer

I won an Applebee's gift card in a work raffle the other week. My very first thought was "what am I going to do with this crap?"
There's a homeless vet downtown that I walk by sometimes, so I gave it to him. Had $50 on it.

What???? I mean, if it's your favorite place, then that's probably weird. But if it's close and you just decide, well we haven't eaten that in a while and we're tired of stopping at the other places. I'm in shorts and a t-shirt, need lunch, and really don't want a drive through burger. If that's what causes you to eat Applebee's, you are not some uncultured moron. It's a cheap sit down chain. You people surely realize that not every meal needs to be an orgasmic experience for your taste buds.
The small town thing is true. I worked in Mississippi for 3 months and all they had was a BWW and anot Applebee's and the BWW had horrible service. We got hammered at that bar 3 nights a week.
