If you are calling them honey all day I guarantee they hate you. It's ok people like you more often than not don't know people dislike you.

If HR calls the OP he could just say he is gay and that's how he talks to his "girlfriends."

Some people can pull that off, some can't. I don't know which one I am, but I don't want to find out "I can't" right before I'm getting a shot ("here's your f'in shot, lover boy").

That's your opinion on it.

Since I'm the one saying it, we should go with my intent rather than someone else's. I call The Skirts babe, dear and honey all the time. I also get them to bring me coffee. Never had a complaint. Guess I'm handsome enough to pull it off.

"I know honey". She snapped, "I'M NOT HONEY".

Eh, without the whole story and just from this quote it kind of sounds demeaning to her.

It is kind of weird to call someone a term of endearment at work. I don't think it is anything to complain to HR about, unless it happens frequently and really bothers you but the person won't stop.

I was called sweetie the other day, but I work with generally people older than me and male, and it was preceded by thank you, so it didn't really bother me.

Well if you read anything I posted in this thread, I said I don't use those terms, Why? b/c I just don't. But my secretary uses "honey" and my boss and clients use "bubba" a lot. Why in hell would that offend me? A lot of you guys need to get the stick out your asses.

So, two people who work for you are cool with you calling them "honey" and whatever else?

Exactly. And this alone makes him an expert on proper office behavior. We are all "living in a shell" as he says cause we think this behavior is inappropriate.

Oh you mean the same ones that are likely in any HR's guidelines and rules?
