You have obviously never been poor and I am amazed that someone would come on here and post this whiny shite. Your rental properties got damaged? Boo fricking hoo. Family of five on $120 k? Boo fricking hoo. Grow a pair and go take care of your business.

That's exactly why we were denied. Too much money in the bank. It feels like you get penalized for saving or for working to have a career

You realize that this is the exact reason why you save, right?

I'm 26 and know that you save money because if shite hits the fan you have it to fall back on and don't have to rely on a hand out.

You aren't being punished for saving in the least.

It will take more than most people's savings to fix their house, replace everything that was lost & buy groceries.

DSNAP has two "parts"

First part is for people on regular SNAP, if they can prove they lost food purchased with SNAP, they will get replacement dollars.

Second part is that many people have a loss of income. This is what got so many people qualified after Katrina... when all commerce shut down / people were relocated out of town, they immediately had no income, and could qualify for DSNAP.

I don't think expenses figure into the equation, and assets (or loss of assets) do not as well.

maybe OP should have saved some of that 120k a year for tough times.

thats what all us oil field hands were told

life will kick you in nuts sometimes.

Pretty much sums it up for me.

I listened to people bitching about not getting DSNAP yesterday also. 5 minutes after they talked about going to the casino over the weekend to get a break. Yeah they really needed the money.

Losing doesn't necessarily make you in need or entitled.

Trying to be honest here, what exactly are you expecting? The assistance is for those that need it.

You're stating you do ok for yourself and actually do have savings, so use that to rebuild and be happy you do well enough for yourself to handle things independently.

You make $120k but you don't have flood insurance in a place that floods frequently. Good job, mate.

He may have made a poor decision not having flood ins but to say he was in a place that floods frequently is not correct. You are mis informed as well as most people in this country. People flooded during this flood that will probably never flood again. If he didn't have flood ins then he either owned his home outright or he was in zone x which mortgage lenders do not make you purchase flood ins because the risk of you flooding is so low as in .01% chance of flooding.
