We got them, but probably only because my wife can't work right now. I guess loss of wages fits into the equation somewhere.I don't know what i'm going to do about my house though. If i take out an SBA loan, that's another bill I'll have to pay on a yet still reduced income for an indefinite amount of time. Can't use my savings, I might need that to pay bills.

100K 25ys 1.5%, I would try to get max SBA loan approved. That's $400/month.

People may not like it but its better than nothing. some will have to learn to cutback if they want to stay here.

You make $120k but you don't have flood insurance in a place that floods frequently. Good job, mate.

You are ignorant. My neighbor's and I were not in a flood zone, according to the government and the houses have NEVER flooded before. Never come close, actually.

Went from that to getting a foot of water. My dad's house has been there since 1952, never flooded, not in a flood zone and he got a few inches which was enough to really do damage.

This put a LOT of people in really tough situations. Hindsight is 20/20 but this is the reality we are dealing with.

I don't see how anyone without insurance EXPECTS to get money for nothing... Sick of all these handouts. Take responsibility for yourselves. If you made 120k last year and need a handout for food this week you are truly pathetic.

That's a bit insensitive. The guy lost everything. This isn't the time for a pissing contest over who deserves help and who doesn't. This is a time to come together and offer help. I've offered help to people who made less than me, people who make more, etc., I'm not checking anyone's paycheck before I offer to help.

This..... I was lucky and received no damage. There are some in my situation that will try and take advantage and get free stuff. How sad.....

I think the issue most people are frustrated with is that those who have worked and paid into the system don't receive government assistance on a monthly basis; but when life kicks them in the teeth and the government is offering assistance, they still aren't eligible.

I get what the issue is. I just don't think anyone bragging abt making 120k shod come here complaining abt food stamps being denied. You know what OP, come mow my yard dude, I'll get you some groceries in return if you are that needy.

I agree. I think there's a lot of bitterness that comes with the territory for those of us that got flooded, weren't in a flood zone, and have watched it rain money on Katrina victims. I don't feel these things should be income tested and I do think there's too much incentive to work for cheap or not at all. I also 100% see people's perspective when they say society/government doesn't owe us ANYTHING. I get that.

When I was in California I lived next to under achievers that worked minimum wage jobs and got everything for free, lived comfortably while I had to pay $2400/mo rent for the same place and didn't get free child care, free car repairs to meet emissions, reduced utility rates, free food, etc. we seen to want to dismiss the middle class now days.

120k for a family of 5 isn't that much money for a family that just lost everything.

Someone who works & pays taxes deserves help in a time like this. I do not consider this a "handout".

Have some compassion, a lot of the people going through this are hard working people that are not living off tax payers.
