For recreational uses, the bike paths are probably a good thing.

I just do not see the bike path reducing vehicle traffic much. It is one thing to ride a bike in the August heat and humidity for recreational purposes but how many people will hop on a bike and peddle 3 miles to work?

Louisiana has an obesity problem and we need better recreational infrastructure to facilitate a healthy cultural shift.

Denver has bike paths everywhere. I think you can get most places in the city and suburbs without riding on the street. There is one that follows much, if not all of the loop around the city.

Benefit of this may not be realized overnight, but as you say hopefully this spurns a shift for the better.

It won't do a darn thing to traffic. It will hopefully encourage locals to move around a little more.

Either way, let's not put a path on Perkins Road, or Highland, or Lee Drive, or College Drive, or Essen Lane...let's put it where most of the automobile traffic is... North Baton Rouge. Ok.

Except there are either already paths along most of these roads or plans to build them in the future.

There are no bike paths along Perkins, Highland, Lee, or Essen. Sidewalks in a few places but they aren't even thorough or connected.

Just seems like, in the grand plan of the capital area pathways project, an odd segment to go for next, when the ones they have started on around the medical district and Perkins Rd. Park aren't yet fully connected.

I said the same thing when they built the path from Quail Drive to Kennelworth and was very wrong. I live in Pollard and see plenty of people using the path at all times of the day and even have used it myself several times (which I never would have done had a trail not been there)

That's good to hear. Hopefully I'm wrong about the NBR pathway.

Did the Quail/Kenilworth project cost a million dollars per mile?

I have no idea, the cross over at the bridge on Quail did take about a year to complete though

It was going to be spent anyway. May as well spend it in Baton Rouge. The economy can use the boost

If we are getting 7 million, NYC must be getting 700 million.

But who cares? It's going to get spent anyway and the NYC economy needs a boost.

In time for north Baton Rouge's redevelopment into a decent neighborhood?

Trust me. There is plenty of time.

Does Denver have the heat and (liquid) precipitation issues that BR does?

It is so hot and rains so damn much here that going on a bike path isn't particularly feasible if you want to get there in a condition to work.

These bridges are an obstacle. They have a trail from Bluebonnet to Siegen and beyond that crosses over Ward's Creek. It is under utilized, but they haven't built the bridge to tie the two together.

It has been a t least a year and nothing is being done. They even extended the Siegen path south, but still no bridge.

Exactly... a much better use of the money (or part of it) would be to complete that segment.

How much does a pedestrian bridge cost?

BREC can't spare that?

It seems they want to impress people with how many miles of bike paths they have than anything else.

Why build a long bike path with no bridge?

Why build a bike path from the casino to no where?

Why not start from a destination point and work out and complete each section as you go?

I understand the crossover bridges part but I'm talking about a crosswalk over Quail and extending the sidewalk 20 feet

You too lazy to swim?

See, this is the big problem with Baton Rouge. Just laziness.

The last thing I read was they were discussing the design of the bridge. It's crazy to spend all that money on concrete, benches, ramps, etc. and not tie the paths together.

You make a good point. We're too fat because we don't jump the orange fence at the end of the new path, walk the path, swim the creek, climb the bank, and get to the other side so we can go to the Mall.

This generation is spoiled. My dad would have done this in the snow with no shoes.
