Stop spelling Iberville like a yankee.

The man founded Louisiana. Put some respect on his name

450,000 people in East Baton Rouge (+ all of the AP residents that live near Bayou Manchac) vs a couple of dozen swamp people that intentionally build homes in a lake.

I mean, this country did elect Joe Biden. I've come to expect stupid things. But there's no way a damn dam should be allowed on Manchac Road. I know Louisiana sure seems to dislike any kind of development restriction, but that's bad even by their standards. Those houses along Manchac in Spanish Lake need to be on piers, similar to the ones along the diversion canal or along the river in Madisonville.

And I agree that this should be criminal, since this was ruled on already in 2016 and in 2019. Ibberville lost those, yet they keep doing this to protect the idiots that built houses literally IN a fricking swamp.

Rules on by a state/federal judge or just a local BR judge?

State judge the last time.

You can continue to attempt to dehumanize one group vs another, but one group isn't governed by a body who recklessly and foolishly destroyed their own parish with zero regard for their neighbors.

Odd that you bring up politics, because the stupidity of effectively making a bowl, filling it with water, being surprised it is wet and demanding your neighbors towel seems like a certain demographic.

South side of Machac Road in Spanish Lake, and most of the housing west of Bluff Road.

IIRC, Ascension Parish decided to build a school there, although they likely spent a lot of money raising it. Named it after Spanish Lake, which is the lake they decided to build it in.

It's called gas lighting.

Literally what the Iberville Parish Government is doing by not applying elevation requirements and restrictions to people building in a swamp, then daming up most of the floodplain to protect their stupid decisions.

ETA: Not really parish president's fault. A lot of the housing pre-dates him. But this definitely calls for state intervention and a regional flood plan that must be enforced.

East Baton Rouge is far ahead of Livingston and Ascension, but they are all working more independently than they should. Livingston even sued Ascension on the placement of a levee a while back.

Didn't they install giant culverts under that spot after 2016?

No, they don't have any "giant" culverts, and what little they have can't do much hence the installation of the dam on the roadway. The lake itself has been full for over a month. It has served it's purpose, and is now being controlled to protect those down stream. This includes folks who did not build within the water shed and also some industrial facilities. Remember in 2016 when Honeywell lost an acid tank due to high water? A big part of that was allowing Manchac to erode alligator bayou road and run uncontrolled.

Good for President Ourso. Don't bend the knee. You owe Baton Rouge nothing.

it is crazy you are getting downvoted. But it is the same people that sue USACE when they open the spillways and flood the camps build in the spillway.

He's posturing, knowing that the courts will force his hand.

But IMO it might be time to install flood control devices around this lake (rather than splitting it). It sits between 3 parishes. It benefits the whole region to let it accumulate water without flooding nearby homes. Treat it like a reservoir during floods.

It's insane that Ibberville is not allowing flood waters to follow their natural path into the Spanish Lake Basin, and risking floods for thousands of residents in EBR

You would make a good politician. Your theory is for a politician not to do everything in their power to protect the constituents that voted for them in favor of protecting people that they have no loyalty to. It’s an Ascension Parish problem and anyone that moves into that basin knows the chances of flooding. Or at least they should have before they moved in. By the way. I live in Ascension Parish

The fact that they're allowed to hold that gigantic watershed hostage is absolutely asinine

Just because EBR has built neighborhoods on its watershed areas why should Iberville be forced to get the extra flood water?

He's being downvoted because he's intentionally directed the focus to a few homes rather than all the others affected.
