The thing is, trophy hunters kill animals like that regularly. Sometimes with good reason.

People are "torn up" about it until they are told to be torn up about it. It's outside our Monkeysphere. It's why the whole "outrage" SJW phenomena is utter bullshite.

I wouldn't go that far. I don't approve of what the dude did. But it shouldn't ruin his life. Lions aren't endangered and if the higher ups really thought about it, they could have used the incident in a mature way that wasn't so plebian to bring attention to an issue without appealing to the baser emotions.

Yep. No one cares about these issues until someone says that they should care, then all these internet warriors appear, claiming that they've always cared...blah blah blah.

It is all fake.

Some people in this thread haven't read much about what transpired. The government isn't even denying that hunting lions is illegal or necessary; they're arguing the fact that the way this was carried out through dishonest means on a protected, specific lion is illegal and has repercussions.

Everyone realizes that what they did was wrong and illegal.

Boom...end of the entire story, right?

Nope. We are going to get a week of fake outrage out of this.

Yup.
And yeah, give me your downvotes.

All those who are "choked up" about a big kitty that got got thousands of miles away are lyin' to yourselves.

Because you Can't really care. It's outside the processing power of our little monkey brains.

You didn't give a frick about Cecil yesterday.

You won't remember Cecil next week.

Lay someone you really care about in the ground over something senseless. Something that eats at you every single day. Then tell me you care.

So yeah. frick a random lion. And every one of you pretenders. You don't care. Can't care. Won't care next week.

I don't think anyone is saying it shouldn't have repercussions. I think the others, like me, are saying it's a bit hypocritical to bring so damn much attention to this like it's the crime of the century versus other stuff that 99% of the population ignores despite it being much more relevant to their daily lives.

I don't watch the news nor read news outlet websites so most of my news comes through specific forums and such that I'm kind of blinded to how much attention this is getting but it seems a lot of people like to judge how outraged others get over news when if they shared what outrages them others might think it's ridiculous.

In my mind this is no different than me taking bacon and going to my neighbors house to lure his dog onto my property to shoot it. 95% of the people on here flip out over dogs being shot by people all the time but "it's just a dog", right? No reason to ruin someone's life or get worked up over a dog.

This is one lion, yes, but it's not just this one lion that has been killed illegally and, hopefully, it's death will bring about harsher restrictions on permits and tighter security parameters for protected animals.

This guy is probably going to have to close his practice because of the bad pub. I'm sure he's getting death threats. The lynch mob is only going to make it worse. What's done is done. I'm sure he does feel like shite and deservingly so.

I don't think anyone disputes this.

Most of the time, people don't know the circumstances of a dog being shot. There are times when it's cruel but there are certainly times when it's sensible.

I guess yeah. Again, I don't think anyone is OK with what this guy did. Just how it's being rammed down people's throats over different coverage and more substantial subjects.

I do follow the news pretty closely usually but the first time I heard about this was on this website. I've talked with a number of people about this too. I haven't followed this at all in traditional media really.

Fair enough.

A guy does illegal things, and it affects his personal life? Sounds pretty standard. Maybe he shouldn't do illegal shite.
