Just when you think the traffic in Baton Rouge couldn't get worse...

No word on when the airport will reopen.

They really need to get that other runway finished with repairs.

They should really consider paving that runway

No one would even know this happened if the other runway wasn't under repair.

Fantastic...I was supposed to be flying to DFW @ 8:30am

Im guessing there is no way in hell this will be resolved by then if the airport reopening schedule for BR is anything like the interstate reopening schedule we follow.

UGHHH...frequent fliers of the board what is the best way to get quick notification if the flight is delayed/cancelled? Im seeing I can set up a notification or email on my phone from Flightaware app, but not sure how quickly that is updated relative to decisions being made in these matters

That will work and also making sure you have notifications from your airline connected to your phone.

I think that 8:30 am departure to DFW is doing a turn around from an early morning arrival to BTR so you should be good. I'd be willing to bet the plane is off the runway now or will be in the next 6-7 hours.

Yea...Found another link on the advocate that says should just be for a few hours. Also it said that only incoming flights were affected, but I was concerned that if the incomings are diverted there wont be any plane to take off at 830.

Thanks Ill keep checking

It's difficult with only 9% taxes to source from. Most tax dollars go to recycling, building sidewalks, snowplows, mass transportation, maintaining the integrity of an interstate loop...wait, nm.

Who the hell is piloting the jet that gets far enough off the runway to get stuck? It had to be some kind of brake problem, right?

BTR needs to get their other runway back up yesterday.

Hydraulics were to blame. The first thing I thought is that some pilot is gonna be in very deep mud...figuratively as well.

I'm sorry but why are the tax dollars paying for the runway? Shouldn't the airport generate enough revenue to pay for itself?

Son of a bitch, is there anything left that isn't getting a fricking subsidy from our taxes

No kidding. I was on a plane that skidded off the runway in Dayton once. It screwed all kinds of things up for them.

BTR does need to get their other runway up and running though.

Before this happened, I had no idea that BR was down to one runway. Wouldn't takeoffs and landings be dangerous with crosswinds instead of a perpendicular into any wind approach?

In the mid 80's I landed in Dallas and taxied past a burned Delta jet at the end of a runway that killed over 100 people.

So I guess Dallas sucks.

And FWIW the airport is open now.
