re: It's getting tough to defend police. Threatning to take kid at traffic stop

Why would he get arrested? For not having an ID? They can't search him! For a traffic stop in which he wasn't driving!
I was using the video as a for instance. If that guy said he didn't have an ID, and then they illegally arrested him, he would be charged with lying to an LEO and his case would be a lot less strong.
His attorney would make the case that he was arrested illegally and that the lying to police should be thrown out, but it might not be.

I'd love to see the 60 seconds before that to see why the officer felt that was necessary.

Because it's actual obstruction when you lie to the police (as opposed to the BS obstruction this cop came up with).
If they arrest you, even if the arrest is horse shite, and find you have an ID, they will most certainly amend the charge and compound your problems.

Is it true you do not have to show id if you don't want to? I thought that wasn't the case.
Identify and ID are two different things.
And Ohio has specific laws on the code book that state you only have to give name, age and address if asked.
In other states, you may be forced to show an ID if there is no clarification on the books, not the case in Ohio.

That's not true, evidence this thread and five-0.
But the bad ones give the good ones a bad name. The black community has every right to distrust police IMO.

if you mean the black community that resembles that of those in jail already, then i agree.
Should every white guy distrust black police officers as well, or it doesn't work that way?

What? If you resemble someone that's in jail then you're a suspect?

A white guy should distrust all police officers as well, but treat them with respect if they are treated with it.

True, but the white community has plenty of reason to do so as well. The issue isn't always racism, it's that cops are dicks simply if they don't like the cut of your jib. They are typically just as heavy handed on white folk who don't want to bend over and take it.

WE should distrust all police officers regardless of color

If you are unlawfully arrested chances are the agency does all the documentation. That is all discoverable.

In my opinion, the reason these types of encounters happen is because police rely on obedience to perform their job. If they lose control bad situations can get out of hand very quickly and they could be outnumbered.
When they give a command, it needs to be followed or repercussions will be had because they need to maintain said control. The issue comes when the command or order is unlawful. They are now faced with a dilemma to enforce the unlawful command or back down and lose control of the situation. In many cases, these police back themselves into a corner and attempt to enforce commands that they can't legally enforce. The worst cops will take any measure available to enforce unlawful commands as in this video.
Police should refrain from giving commands they can't enforce legally. IMO that is the issue in many cases.

Depends. On a lawful traffic stop everyone on the vehicle can be IDed. Just walking in public by itself, NOT so much.

That's why the military is no questions asked. Problem is, they don't have the laws to follow. It is a catch-22 for LEO, but I am for the side that errs with the citizen.

Just as good. Semantics is hard on a message board.

Apparently you've never been profiled by a policeman. Congrats! I used to close late nights at Canes, and would be driving home around 2-4 AM. I would CONSTANTLY be pulled over and have to undergo drinking tests. They would never tell me why I was being pulled over, and I never got a ticket. I also was asked once if they could search my car, to which I replied no, and the idiot cop actually tried to argue that disagreeing to a search is probable cause TO search.
Police are not your friends.
Full disclosure, I'm a 26 year old white guy. I was 23 when all that happened.
