No actually you miss the smell of books in the library or cramming for deadlines, researching papers, the process of discovery, something higher to shoot for, very much the same at each level.

Enlighten us more...

Not in my field. In physics there is no admission into an MS program, it's PhD or nothing. In EE, what I did instead, the MS plays no role towards your PhD outside of coursework. My thesis project wouldn't meet the requirements of a dissertation in scope at all. I'd think most science and engineerings are PhD from the start. They'd give you an MS at some point, but that's not the goal.

With a legitimate reason, leave the dude alone. I couldn't do it. But don't need to be negative. Give a little room for pride from a job well done. It's ok! Being positive is scary I know, but so much more rewarding.

Your doctoral program must have been very different from mine. Definitely don't miss those days

Ironically, most PhD programs require that you have an MA or MS as a prerequisite for entry into their program

This didn't pop into his head.

He had been thinking about it for years.

Oh I learned well from my Anabaptist brethren. The avg Anabaptist lived only 18 months after rejecting infant baptism and getting rebaptized. Read Foxes Book of Martyrs if you get a chance. Freedom from the tyranny of the state is a recurring theme throughout history. Paige reminds me of the Anabaptist women. They were full blown attention whores, who would get naked during a church service because they were being lead by the spirit to be free from all constraints.
